BLACK HEN who now CROWS!
I have eight chickens and one rooster these days…….we havenot had baby chicks for a few years now as we take the eggs away. But what do my ears hear but a black chicken who has been with us for at least 5 years maybe longer is starting to crow! Can you chicken lovers believe that?I could not believe my ears…so I crept down to spy on her /him???Sure enough there she was trying her best to make a sound to wake the others up to get the day started. The rooster was still in the bedroom and was not even moving!Has anyone heard of such a phenomenon?

I had that thought myself FiFi!!!Of course, it could……….I love the sounds when they are just learning to crow!I remember way back when it was all new to me I thought the small little sounds were my youngest son coughing!!!He suffered from allergies and I thought, “Oh poor little guy this is awful!”

I’m not sure of the life expectancy of a hen but perhaps this one is having a mid-life identity crisis?

YOU ARE THE FUNNIEST!
ROOSTERS AND HENS ARE ALL CHICKENS!
The differentiation……is “rooster” and “hen” The rooster is the boy….the “hen is the girl”:!!
(this sounds like sex-ed in 6th grade at Poly!!!)
Have you actually watched this chicken crow? (this needs to be an eye-witness report!!)
I would take my time getting rid of him! I adore……..(ADORE) roosters…….!!
They save the hens and their chicks…….constantly……..it has taught me so many really great things about MEN!
I need a video! I have had my pet chickens for over 24 years! thanks for asking!!
You are the BEST!
Penelope
La Contessa says
Yes, Penelope………this was an EYE- WITNESS REPORT!I will NEVER get rid of him/her.NEVER!No worries there! Thanks for all YOUR BEAUTIFUL COMMENTS!!!!!!!
Penelope Bianchi says
OH! I spoke too soon! That black chicken is a HEN!! They make very unusual sounds……..but they do not “crow”! “Cockadoodledoo” is the thing the boys do!
I have hens who make some very loud and unusual sounds………that is a hen!
Please compliment her for her sound! She wants a rooster!!
Who wouldn’t??
Penelope
Penelope Bianchi says
I think she wants a rooster!
(I don’t blame her!!) Can you find her one?? We just hatched 14; and another hen is sitting on 4 eggs…..)
Can you hear it?
“I thought we agreed that we wouldn’t have anymore hens hatch any more eggs!!)
Oh, well.
There is one hen sitting on 4 eggs…..and she gets to stay! (who said we agreed????)
She is committed!

Just so you know! A rooster has a much bigger (comb); at the top of his head!
Mainly…….he has much larger and longer red things under his beak!
Hens make very funny noises…..some of them very loud….this is definitely a hen!
Poor dear. She wants a rooster……..so she is impersonating one!!
Can you sneak one past the Italian Husband???
I adore the roosters!
La Contessa says
I HAVE A ROOSTER ALREADY!A MISTER GREY……….who actually is this “CHICKS” brother!

That hen has been in the bay area too long. It is having a gender identity crisis.
La Contessa says
YES!That could be the case!

Craziness at the end of your summer there! The world is upside down – maybe she is part parrot and can imitate. Mind you I can identify with her. I am 52 – probably 10 in chicken years and sometimes I feel like opposite day tooo!
contessa says
You ROCK MADAME JODY!Four kids and all that you do!No wonder you feel like crowing from time to time!
