That is the subject we were all given by MARSHA at SPLENDEROSA.COM for this months BY INVITATION ONLY series………..To describe one of the best days of your LIFE so far!An actual day……….

I did not have to think too LONG;as I would NEED photos to document the TALE.
I had thought about doing a POST on these girls recently, had not gotten to it.
So, with a little explanation I shall explain the scene…………..
My dear friend was sick………CANCER.
She was given an opportunity to come back to the STATES from SOUTH AFRICA with her two girls.
I jumped at the chance to see HER and make it MEMORABLE.
I grabbed a few items from the HEN HOUSE shop I ran and loaded up my TRUCK with essentials……….
Tulips, pink champagne, candelabras, frames and vintage gowns.
We drove NORTH to COW country and the Famous WENDY ADDISON’s SHOP.Tucked away in the hills of PORT COSTA.
We also were celebrating a BIRTHDAY………..A DUCHESS as I call HER.
The DAY couldn’t have been more DELIGHTFUL.
You see we had a picnic. Before all this we were TREATED to a SHOW at THEATRE OF DREAMS.
A VERY MAGICAL show.
Then we were escorted through the old WAREHOUSE to the TOP FLOOR where there was an apartment for RENT.
We were ALL ready to MOVE in!
Even with branches growing through the windows and cracks in the walls and a VERY GOOD CARPET hanging up to keep the drafts at BAY.
I should STOP chatting and let you take a PEEK…………..
Remember I had to write about ONE OF THE BEST DAYS of my 54 years of LIVING.
I have HAD a FEW of these DAYS in MY LIFE………BUT this is something I could SHARE.
I have these PHOTOS…………THESE PHOTOS of a VERY SPECIAL DAY.
I was lucky enough to see my GIRLFRIEND one more time after this TRIP.
Then SHE was CALLED to HEAVEN to HELP with GRACE and DECORUM of the ANGELS that BE.
You see SHE was a PRIMA BALLERINA ABSOLUTE and A MOST DEVOTED MOTHER.
I found HER to BE ABSOLUTELY DIVINE!
I also FIRST spied HER in an ANTIQUE STORE.
I then stalked HER to become MY FRIEND with ENGLISH MAGAZINES.
ENOUGH………..of MY story.
ENJOY!
MARCH 20th,
TWO THOUSAND EIGHT
PORT COSTA,CALIFORNIA

The DUCHESS on the left (BIRTHDAY GIRL) and CATHERINE on the right.

Carrying the PROPS from the truck to the picnic in the VINCA ground cover…………

Pink Champagne & Pink Lemonade…………for the PINK birthday GAL!

The HAT belonged to CATHERINES GRANDMAMA………I had been the keeper for a few years as they moved back to SOUTH AFRICA and couldn’t possibly take all…………so out of the TRUCK came the HAT which now resides with one of HER girls.

The youngest EMMA……………….behind her the branches growing through the old dilapidated apartment we all wanted to LIVE IN!

The silk carpet that kept the draft out………..hanging on a wall!

VICTORIA, EMMA and CATHERINE their MOTHER my DEAR DEAR FRIEND.

VICTORIA………….and yes those black specks behind HER are COWS.

The GIRLS looking for COWS……..

The GIRLS with their MOTHER and their GREAT GRANDMOTHER’S HAT!I do believe it was a DIOR.

EMMA MY GODCHILD NOW.

EMMA……………the skirt was too BIG so her MAMA rolled it up and made it a gown………..BRILLIANT!

VICTORIA……….another GOD CHILD who is almost finished with college now!!!

Catherine before children……………PRIMA BALLERINA ABSOLUTE.
MY VOQUE COVER GIRLS…………..

MY GODCHILDREN…………….thank GOODNESS for FACEBOOK I can keep up with them in SOUTH AFRICA.

Her hair was gone by this time and she was wearing a wig.Which she chopped up…..I thought it was a SMASH!

Those BLUE eyes are the REAL DEAL!The day was a surprise for THE DUCHESS.I think they BOTH had a WONDERFUL DAY.

Catherine passed on JUNE 17th, 2009 she would have been 49 on AUGUST 31st…………….I never did get to go visit HER in her MAGICAL ABODE in PLETTENBERG BAY.I did go for the CELEBRATION of LIFE to be there to send her off……………During which time during the SERVICE I learned I was named a GODMOTHER of these TWO GORGEOUS GIRLS……………..
So, now you know about the Jumping woman on the HEADER of my VINTAGE HEN HOUSE site!
They are living LIFE to the fullest and from what I gather have a GREAT deal of their Mother in them.I am so lucky to have them in MY LIFE.Here is Emma earlier this year…………..

I apologize for the quality of these photos as I snapped a photo of a photo so its not too clear on some but I did think you would ALL enjoy the BEAUTY of the DAY.I DREAMED this up and was VERY proud of how it all turned out.IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE and BEST DAYS of MY LIFE!I hope you all enjoyed MY GIRLS!

Bonjour Contessa, fun indeed, oh how I love hats, this Dior hat is divine and pink, I love pink, the histroy of the hat too, and those masks are over the top fun, I did notice Emma’s tulle skirt and loved it pulled up for a dress, Love Tulle, why not, what a day indeed! So joyous to be outside together in dress up. My mom always gave me what we called: “dress up” parties starting when I was very small but old enough to know what was going on, opera length gloves, high-heels, real champagne glasses with berries and ginger ale in them, pretty petit pedifores, make-up, jewelry, music for my friends, tablecloths, we surely did believe we were in a fashion shoot, and starting this when I was around 10 years old. Later we moved to other ideas as halloween since I am a October baby. Such fun, thank you for these as I got huge tears in my eyes of all the love shared. XO just LOVE your picture, you look beautiful and so does Emma.

Good morning Contessa, I had one of those moments where I dragged myself out of bed at 5 am with many things to do on the blog before I race off for work. I now know exactly why I was so compelled to get up. This post! Your bittersweet story, your images, fanciful, whimsical and poignant, is a gift today. For years I lived directly across the Carquinez Strait from Port Costa. The water, the views of those green hills, the brilliant sunshine, the lights of the C & H Factory, were all the backdrop to my life in the late 1990’s. Your post, graced with shades of friendship and beauty-looking back and looking forward in life, is a sweet reminder to seize the day, celebrate absolutely everything–in pink and gowns if possible-as life is short. You created an unforgettable memory for your ballerina and her beautiful girls. Such a gift. Hugs, Heather

Elizabeth,
So very bittersweet. Truly a day to remember forever. What a gift you gave those girls that day. Of course she named you their God mother: she obviously was smart as well as beautiful.
May we all be as thoughtful and giving in our daily lives with the people around us.
Thank you for sharing such a personal day with all of us.
