TAMERA BEARDSLEY

CIAO EVERYONE!

TIME TO FEATURE A GORGEOUS WOMAN OVER 50!

WE call these AGELESS STYLE POSTS and I am in partnership with https://cindyhattersleydesign.com/blog

SO, pop over to HER BLOG and see who she is FEATURING TODAY!

I THINK IT’s A MAN!!!!!!!

Let me introduce MY VICTIM this MONTH……….. TAMERA BEARDSLEY!

She lives in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA and has a BLOG after her own name.

TO FOLLOW TAMERA click HERE .

SHE OWNS HER STYLE with a TOUCH of OLD WORLD GLAMOUR TOSSED IN!

SHE ALSO HAS A SHOP where you can shop HER ACCESSORIES!

SHE EVEN MADE A NECKLACE SHE REFERS TO AS THE CONTESSA PEARLS………..GUESS WHO OWNS THEM!?!!!

GO HERE to SHOP

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

I would describe my style as a mix of glam with a big dash of Southern California sportiness mixed in. I have a penchant for dramatic pieces that move well when dressing for an event.  During the week I am more prone to uniform basics that allow me to get things done … and still out the door in style with the addition of well chosen accessories!

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE?

A deep love for accessories inspire my style always! I have loved accessories since I was very young.  That love led me to getting a certificate in Fashion Merchandising, a design degree from UCLA and owning and designing for  my own fashion accessory company for years!  Some people paint with oils or acrylics … my main medium has always been accessories and clothes.

WHAT ACCESSORY CAN YOU NOT DO WITHOUT?

Living in Southern California … I can not live without my sunglasses and hats!  Not only do these accessories offer valuable sun protection … but they are one of the quickest ways to add a  quick high dose of style to any outfit.

FAVORITE COLOR?

My favorites color is always in a range of creams and whites, For me they are calming colors that also show texture and line beautifully. Having favorite wardrobe colors makes it easy to build a wardrobe of beloved pieces that withstand time.

DO YOU HAVE A SIGNATURE PIECE THAT DEFINES YOUR STYLE?

Signature pieces that define my style would  definitely be headwear! I am always on the lookout for fabulous hats. I have been designing and refining my turbans for some time now!  I have also added crowns to my designs in my online shop.  For occasion dressing I always find them a perfect celebratory accessory!

WHAT ARE YOUR STYLE STRENGTHS?

My Style Strengths are definitely that I will take risks with what I wear.  I am passionate about clothes and accessories.  I dress to please myself … and make my heart happy!  At my age I know there are so few things I really have control over … and how I Dress Myself … is definitely one.  I am always most concerned with how clothes make Me feel!  Feeling truly happy with what I’m wearing … makes my heart happy … which means I have more love and energy to pour into others. I believe what we Wear can be a conduit to truly expressing who we are at the time … and giving us more joy and passion in our daily life!

DO YOU HAVE REPEAT OFFENDERS IN YOUR CLOSET if SO WHAT ARE THEY?

Oh I definitely have repeat offenders in my closet.  They are my grab and go … tried and true outfit … that with the fast grab of a couple of accessories … get me out the door in a flash!  This summer the piece that has been on a continual repeat is my white linen dress from Anthropologie.  With some sleeve detailing … grabbing a great necklace, shoe, sunglasses, hat and bag … I can be ready for any of the weekday destinations!  You can hear by now … how I am all about well chosen accessories for a finished chic look.

WHAT ARE YOUR BEAUTY ESSENTIALS THAT YOU COULDN’T DO WITHOUT?

Beauty essentials that I can not due without would definitely begin with my use of Erno Lazlo skincare.  I have been a loyal user since I was 18.  I was at the counter in Neiman Marcus and I saw a women in her late 60’s with the most amazing skin and beauty.  She said she had been using it for decades.  She told me how Jackie Kennedy has chosen it even for her own children,  I started using it then and to this day … 40 years later because the line has always accommodated my changing skin through the years.  Erno Lazlo has had me oiling my face for decades … before the recent trend realized the benefits.

For makeup products I swear by Chanel, especially their liquid foundation.  But I do veer form the line when it comes to concealer, where my top choice is always Cle Du Peau.

WHAT ADVISE DO YOU HAVE FOR WOMEN OVER 50, or over 40?

The advice I would give women over 50 is too learn how to have fun and enjoy dressing.  I am a firm believer that style and fashion do not belong exclusively to the young.  At 58 years old, I can say I have never enjoyed style more!  With the investment of time and effort there are style choices out there for all ages and sizes.  I believe we all have more to give … when we feel good about how we look!  At my age I have also realized there are few things I can control in life … but deciding what I want to wear is definitely one I relish!

DO YOU HAVE ANY STYLE RULES THAT YOU LIVE BY?

My only style rule I live by is to … wear things that make my heart happy!  Learning to develop and embrace personal style is a wonderful thing … and can add layers of happiness to even your day to day! I learned years ago to dress for myself … especially at home!  There was a time many, many years ago … I dressed for the outside world … but wore my grungy clothes at home. I finally realized how we dress for ourselves at home … says so much about how we feel about ourselves and our lives.  I got rid of the stained and grungy old pieces … and invested in cozy loungewear for my day to day at home … active wear that makes working out more fun. I now have clothes for home that I look forward to putting on … and I’m never embarrassed to open the door.    I have pieces that are comfortable, functional and tell  my inner voices … I am very grateful for my life … and to be me.  I actually believe how we dress at home for ourselves … is as important … if not more so … than how we dress outside the home and seeing others.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONLINE GO TO SOURCES?

Online shopping … for me can be a blessing and a curse … in the sense it can be a rabbit hole I can loose hours inside of.  I actually decided to take the whole month of September off from shopping online … and I must say it has been wonderful!!  I have had not only more money in my accounts … but more creative time as well. With none of my dreaded … should I buy it or not.  To be completely honest, I have filled up too many closets … trying to fill myself up after all of my children have left the nest.  Guest rooms are also closets these days. So right now I am on a editing, refining and organizing my wardrobe and have found it absolutely invigorating! As I approach 60 in a year and a half … I want to refine my style even more … to celebrate and embrace my years with elegance and gratitude!

But to answer the  online site question properly, when I have shopped online, I like to start my search on high end sites like Moda Operandi,  Net-A-Porter and Neiman Marcus.  Not that I actually shop there very often, but it is a fast and easy way to see new fashion trends that I might be interested in.  I am definitely not in the financial bracket to frequent these sights … except on very rare occasions.  If I find some ideas that catch my eye, I move down to check out the likes of Anthropologie, J Crew and  Zara. Sometimes even Target has some great everyday finds.  If it is a concept I absolutely want to explore … I can make one up myself.  Growing up I was an avid sewer as my parents owned a fabric store as a side hobby. So when I can’t find something I want online … with a price I am comfortable with … I simply create one.  My turban collections are a perfect example.  I like mine with a strong, bold presence, that I couldn’t find … so I started designing my own.

DO YOU HAVE A PARTICULAR DESIGNER YOU ARE DRAWN TO?

I am still loving Donna Karan … especially now with her recent designs for Urban Zen.

~

CARMEN BUSQUETS is definitely my favorite STYLE ICON of the moment.

Well there you go my dear!  I answered all of your questions!  Thank you for your interest my friend.  I have really enjoyed pondering my style philosophy and I am even more eager to edit and purge my closets to further refine and define my wardrobe!

All the best to you my dearest Contessa!

Oh you gorgeous person. What a treat to read about you. I love your blog and am always impressed with the creative way you put yourself together. Could you please post photos of how you dress at home? I’ve taken to wearing my husband’s old T-shirts. Think I could use some direction. It would be fun. I used to use Lazlo. I need to revisit that counter.

I also love her suggestion about perusing the more expensive sites and then finding similar affordable pieces elsewhere (such great advice) I use Ebay for that very same purpose. Tamara has always reminded me of an enchanted Sea Queen in a fairytale. When I see her pictures….which I have for years after following her blog….it is so easy to imagine her in an underwater sea kingdom sitting on a coral throne, blonde hair waving slowly around her head under a pearl crown. She would be wearing pink pearly shells on her wrists and would be wearing a seafoam gown. An enchanted life in an enchanting land. The real Tamara lives in the warm, beachy land of Southern California. Many believe it is where dreams come true and fairytales come to life. Tamara represents that dream…pearl encrusted crowns, billowing white gowns the color of sea foam. She is enchanting!

The two of you perfectly balance the wheel of color. Regarding the donning of neutrals, Tamara is queen and her palette of white is her exclamation point….beautiful, gauzy elegance. You, Contessa, are the spokeswoman for all things spicy and vibrant. You skillfully compose texture with color and add a lightening bolt with the perfect accessory. Or two. Or three. Regal, commanding, striking.

“wear things that make my heart happy”–those are wise words!! It’s easy to see how she embodies them, too, with the fun details, the “extras” like super sleeves and billowing ruffles. I love that last shot of her. You could make a movie around that photo.
Ernst Lazlo couldn’t ask for better proof of its efficacy. Tamera’s skin is amazing. Her Mona Lisa smile helps.

Tamera nailed it with her WISE WORDS!If you are HAPPY others will be HAPPY looking at YOU as well!
I might add I was downtown San Francisco not once but twice yesterday in terrible traffic.I had time to LOOK at what people were WEARING!
YUCK………is the word that comes to my MIND!
95% of the people are dressed in BLACK.It was a BEAUTIFUL FALL DAY IN the HIGH 80’s here……………….BLACK use to be for FUNERALS.Now it is a STAPLE for every day dressing as it’s easy and slimming…………I saw NO POW of an ACCESSORY with COLOR or shoes that had style………..most all were sneakers.
I wouldNOT WEAR what they had on for WORK in my own HOME as CASUAL WEAR!!!!!
There should be a resurgence for DRESSING as one’s MOOD is simply LIFTED.Here in the STATES WE NEED THAT NOW!!!!!!

Well my goodness! I join the ranks of commenters who are GUILTY of wearing “just whatever” at home. I never think to wear FASHION at home unless it’s for an event. My Mama did have amazing caftans and would often change to that after an early afternoon bath– why don’t I? They go very well with cocktails. Somehow I would feel I had to have guests in to don such wear, but Tamera and Contessa may have changed my mind! What a fun interview.

Unknowingly, Tamera has reawakened my Gypsy Soul, and has given me the courage to step out more authentically than ever before. I haven’t heard about Erno Lazlo for years…my Mother introduced me to the line when I was 22! She swore by it, always. We lived in NYC for years so off i would go to Bergdorfs to buy more. I think I stopped using it by age 35: just too expensive and at that age, well, who cares, your skin is just fine!!! Anyway, a blast from the past.

Thank you Elizabeth for featuring Tamera, and my thanks to Tamera for sharing! I started wearing Erno Lazlo when I was 21 but have recently changed to another amazing product. I love getting to know more about all of my favorite online women. If only I lived closer… Perhaps I can bring my big hats and sunglasses and come for a visit. Just watched Lotusland’s 2016 video review. What a treasure! I’m off to see what’s happening on Cindy’s blog! xoxox, Brenda

What a delightful post and lady!! I have now been introduced to yet another style maven by you, Contessa, thank you. I love her free spirit and philosophy about making yourself happy in what you choose to wear, even at home. I need to take a page out of her book. Would love to see what she wears at home and finds comfy!! Another great, fun post, thank you!!

Great post! Tamera is so beautiful! She’s an add for Erno Lazlo. I love her suggestion to dress in what makes you happy and trim the closets of excess! I need to do that! Those extra bedroom closets! And her white outfits are just perfect. It’s always appropriate in So Cal. Thank you Missy!!

I LOVE reading Tamera’s blog. She truly sparkles. I’ve long admired her sense of style. So happy to learn that she sells accessories on line. Can’t wait to order some. I didn’t find any turbans though on her site. I would snap them up in a second.

Dear CONTESSA! I LOVE your series on fashionable women over 50. KEEP UP the great work!

Hello Elizabeth …thank you for another great fashion post and what a wonderful selection you made with Tamera! I absolutely have most sentimental feelings about Tamera because she was one of the first bloggers I met in person when I moved down here–and not only is she beautiful, but most importantly she is warm and sensitive at her core. I loved our visit and whenever I want to be swept away from my little world I stop at her blog and enjoy her fun, bold style —I am always amazed at her gorgeous photoshoots and I’m so impressed with the photography skills of her husband too—I bet they’re a fun couple to hang with.
this is such a fun series you and Cindy are doing a great job!

Tamara is so ELEGANT… as is her sense of style… and this interview format is perfection: in HER own words is THE BEST. All of these women prove the ‘second act’ can be, in its own way, equally as wonderful as the first. It is impossible not to feel something quietly powerful about them— an authenticity and fearlessness— and a beauty that is both outward and inward. Our daughter is graduating with her masters in speech-language pathology in December (‘Devyn’ in the Fantastic Tails : ) and she adores the ocean… a gorgeous carved mermaid swims above her bedroom door, carrying a star. So, I will be choosing a graduation gift from Tamara’s site (the choice will be SO hard!!!) XOXO

So a great read, Elizabeth. I’ve been following Tamara and enjoying her so much so to hear more about how she views her style is great. I’ve already chosen a line that I will quote her on in a future blog. She said, “I believe we all have more to give when we feel good about how we look.” Just love that! I too am fascinated to learn more about her at home attire. That’s a subject that needs to be talked about more, in my humble opinion. She has opened a great conversation there. For years I lived in the color cream and loved it for the reasons she does: the calm, the beauty, and how delicious it shows up with different textures. Gosh, a rich way to spend my early Sunday morning was reading your blog. Thanks!

I especially love what she said about dressing for yourself in your home. I definitely need to work on that! I love how you both “Over Dress”, that’s what sets you apart from everyone else. XOXO
