I really would not say that I have a signature style. I have some signature elements like statement earrings, sunglasses and a bold lip.

3.What accessory can YOU NOT DO WITHOUT?
My statement earrings.

4.Favorite Color?

BLUE.

5.Do you have a SIGNATURE PIECE that defines your style?
Well cut wide leg, high waisted black trousers

6.What are YOUR STYLE STRENGTHS?

I am always willing to experiment and try something new. I am not afraid to wear something many times if I love it.

7.Do you have a STYLE ICON?
I admire Tilda Swinton

8.What are your BEAUTY ESSENTIALS you couldNOT do without?

My Oribe Silverado hair products and my Pat McGrath Lip Lust Lipsticks.

9.Do you have REPEAT OFFENDERS in your closet if so what are they? Black blazers,  black skirts, black trousers and white shirts.

10.What ADVISE do you have for women over 50 over 40?

AGE is not a variable to consider when you are getting dressed.

11.Do you have any STYLE RULES that YOU live by?

I break rules, not follow them.

12.What are YOUR FAVORITE on line GO TO SOURCES?

I like Farfetch, Vestaire Collective, but generally prefer to shop in stores.

13.Do you have a particular designer you are drawn TOO?

YOHJI YAMAMOTO.
 
I have NEVER met LYN but I have DM(direct messaged) her on INSTAGRAM to say HEY,”YOU are on the 6th page of VOQUE this month!!!!”
I have done that TWICE now as she was in the ITALIAN VOQUE which my ITALIAN hand carried HOME from ITALY last OCTOBER!
Made my DAY as I KNOW THAT WOMAN, but NOT REALLY!She has always been VERY APPRECIATIVE and has COMMENTED On some of MY EARRINGS!!!!!!
LYN Is A HOT POTATO at the moment as A LOT of BRANDS are endorsing HER.
I just saw a PHOTO of LYN modeling a WHITE SHIRT she is modeling for UNIQLO.
I know A LOT of YOU are ALWAYS looking for THAT PERFECT WHITE SHIRT!

  7. Lyn is one of my favorite models repping 50+ women. It boils down to just loving her style. Not too dramatic; just a whole lot of class and edginess. In my opinion, Lyn is what Coco Chanel would be walking the streets looking like if she were alive today.

  9. I disagree with her. Her style strengths are her excellent posture and her fearless attitude, which I suspect goes far beyond just not being afraid to try something new. She exudes energy and strength, even though a couple of photos make me suspect she’s tiny, physically.
    Thank you for introducing us to yet another woman who is taking on the world instead of accepting shrinking violet status because she is older than 40. These words grabbed me: “an urban, modern, intellectual aesthetic.” YES.
    Beautiful photos, especially the first one with the ginko leaves. And I see the WFC Winter Garden, which I passed through many times a day for years. Sigh.

  14. What a fabulous woman. She’s a modern work of art. Abstract. She looks and dresses like no one. I love her style. It’s so not me but I appreciate the artistry and edginess of her look. I understand why she was called the accidental icon. She looks like one. What does she teach? What does she use on her face? How does she feel about her position in the fashion world? So much fun. I have been subscribed to her blog for simply ages, I like the way she has are a really great sense of her own style and that it is always edgy and slightly angular. It almost has an androgynous feel to it and I find that very appealing. Thank you so much for putting this one in.

  26. I preface my comment by saying that I hope this is a group that looks for actual dialogue and not just fan applause.

    Lyn used the word ‘somber’ as one of the ways do describe her style. I think that somber describes her expression. She does not emote much joy but looks like she is just going through the motions. Maybe she is going for the juxtaposition of a somber face and wacky wardrobe. She does have a large fan base, so her look does appeal to many. However, I do not look to her for inspiration.

  27. I COMPLETELY DISAGREE . The woman has loads of dosh to spend . This is for the trendoids. Women with nought better to do than to constantly shop . Personally , for moi , those Italian Mama’s , with their plain looks are far more beautiful and unpretentious. Earthy .

  28. WOW! Lyn Stater! I remember a couple of years ago when a cyber friend in the UK told me to check out her blog that she thought I would find it very interesting….and validating. I am SO glad I did. I admire Lyn so much and followed her ever since. She is an inspiration and I discovered the Japanese designers through her and a few of the Australian ones as well! Although most of my Issey Miyake and Rei Kawakubo pieces are bought on ebay (with the exception of an Issey Miyake handbag which I refuse to buy on ebay), I am so glad I have access to these pieces. I love statement earrings and have always worn high waist, wide leg pants, harem’s and Karate pants. WHAT IS NOT TO LOVE about the ACCIDENTAL ICON????? Thank you, Elizabeth! What a fabulous post!

  39. Great post Contessa! Lyn has amazing style and is so unique. I have met Lyn and I have walked in a fashion show she put together at Fordham University, and what I found so surprising is she is petite and so soft spoken. Yet, her style is bold and bigger than life. She is a doll, lovely and such an inspiration to women of all ages. She is a true trail blazer!

  42. HOW do you find such interesting women… opening your blog posts causes me to inhale deeply, because it is always a fast, exhilarating sled ride to the bottom. Always. I ADORE Lyn’s introduction and dipped into her blog… she is a wonderful writer. I am now researching fashion for the sequel I’m working on, which will take place on an exo-planet in the Orion Nebula–it is an advanced human society, and Lyn is channeling an important character (older woman, complex, beautiful, dark…) So, not only fun to read (and listen to), but inspirational… Bravo!!!

  46. I totally agree with the comment that she shows no joy when talking about her style or in her photos. She mentioned a 13 year old in her comments and that’s exactly what she reminds me of..a rebellious teenager looking for attention. I’m not convinced she dresses for her own pleasure rather than to make a statement and my interpretation of the statement is…look at me! I’m not afraid to look ridiculous!
