What is HOLDING me back is the long bit as I think it would drive me NUTS!
Nothing a BOBBY PIN or a CUTE TORTOISE CLIP couldn’t solve HOWEVER, than I wouldNOT look as CHIC as HELEN however!

OUR HELEN TODAY LIVES IN ENGLAND!
THAT COUNTRY WITH A QUEEN A FEW PRINCES, A COUPLE OF PRINCESSES,FABULOUS DUCHESSES, and of course that little guy who was born on my BIRTHDAY; the future KING after his GRANDPA and DADDY have had a GO with the TITLE……………….. GRAND little GEORGE!

1. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
I wouldn’t call myself fashionable, my style reflects my attitude and personlity. I prefer classic ageless style with attention to accessories.
2.WHAT INSPIRES YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE?
As a child I was always in awe of the models at the department store I would regularly visit with my grandparents. The models would walk between the tables in the restaurant showcasing the latest styles of the 1970s then 80’s. These models were always elegantly dressed. Conservative style, quality, British, ageless, timeless. This feeling influences me up to this day.
3.WHAT ACCESSORY CAN YOU NOT DO WITH OUT?
Earrings, I don’t feel dressed without them.
4.FAVORITE COLOR?
Green – I love all shades, especially lime green
5.DO YOU HAVE A SIGNATURE PIECE THAT DEFINES YOUR STYLE?
My hair defines my style. Over the years I have tried to grow my hair and experiment with the latest fashions but I keep returning to this hard edgy cut and colour.
6.WHAT ARE YOUR STYLE STRENGTHS?
I have reached an age where I feel confident enough to know what works and what doesn’t – and I don’t get too hung up when I know it’s not quite right.
I also never regret being overdressed.
I also have no problem wearing a black roll neck and jeans, knowing my accessories will take me from shopping at the local market to a city cocktail bar.
7.DO YOU HAVE A STYLE ICON?
I have many – some British / European / American, I adore 50’s and 60’s glamour – Deborah Kerr – Honor Blackman – Wallace Simpson – Jackie O.
Some of my style icons are fictional characters, Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada and Glen Close in 101 Dalmatians as Cruella Deville.
One of my favourite British actresses Penelope Keith epitomises a certain English style that I adore in both TV series The Good Life and To the Manor Born.
8.WHAT ARE YOUR BEAUTY ESSENTIALS YOU COULD NOT DO WITHOUT?
Perfume – I adore perfume – Chanel, Tom Ford and so many others.
I worked in the beauty industry for YSL, Christian Dior and Lancôme.
My beauty box is constantly overflowing with the latest colours and textures of makeup, sitting along side some old classics namely Touche Eclat and Opium.
9. DO YOU HAVE REPEAT OFFENDERS IN YOUR CLOSET IF SO WHAT ARE THEY?
Jeans – jeans – jeans
10. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR WOMEN OVER 50,OR OVER 40?
Be confident in whatever you wear – rules are meant to be broken -invest in key items such as shoes , boots , coats and never cut your own hair!
11.DO YOU HAVE ANY STYLE RULES THAT YOU LIVE BY?
I don’t have many, correct trouser length is important to me, not showing too much flesh and avoid small handbags.
12.WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONLINE GO TO SOURCES?
I do very little online shopping as I prefer the whole experience of going into store.
I do however get a lot of inspiration from Instagram which is gradually leading me down the online route.
13. DO YOU HAVE A PARTICULAR DESIGNER THAT YOU ARE DRAWN TO?
Bella Freud who is a London based fashion designer, the daughter of artist Lucian Freud and great granddaughter of Sigmund Freud.

What do I do for Apple? I’m a Specialist, advising customers for telephones, computers and accessories. Plus I help with problems (forgotten passwords, iCloud problems, etc), help install new products and direct traffic (On Point)… (a sort of host) when people come in the store. I love it!

I love the white/silver style. However, my hair is thinning. Are you aware of a wig company that sells wings that match your hairstyle????

I doubt she will even admit she wears a wig. It is obvious to me know, after seeing lots of her pictures on IG. There is no part, it is a super thick wig that she just moves hair around to make it look different. It has been exactly the same for a long time. No one her age has hair that thick. Even if someone has incredibly thick hair, they also have thick facial hair. She does not, draws in her eyebrows and wears false eyelashes. But, she is very stylish, interesting and always unique.

Go for the Doo Contessa! I think it would look great, and if you don’t like it or it isn’t practical for you then not a big deal to grow out. Love this post, Helen seems so very calm and cool about her style. Obviously she is very comfortable in her own skin, which is really the key to great style. Helen is gorgeous and I love her style, especially dressing up jeans. Last time I went for a cut and color the woman ahead of me in the chair had that cut and she looked fabulous, like Helen. I asked my stylist about cutting it that way and she said I didn’t have enough hair… and it didn’t have the body to do that and I know she’s right. It’s gotten so thin and with the slightest humidity it gets wavy. If I want that “do,” I need to buy a wig! xoxox, Brenda

with any style (pinned up, French braid, undone…) and you know…at a certain age we shouldn’t copy other…you are a personality…you are the Contessa..

Helen has wonderful hair and a great figure!! I love her casual, but confident style. I am with Brenda- I would have to get a wig, with my naturally curly hair. But her hair is a statement, and looks fabulous against her tan.

I just found your blog and LOVE IT. Personally I just bit the bullet and cut my hair short and edgy. I have a ton of hair and it just looks better short.
I am 60 going on 35-40. I still can’t believe the number…and refuse to dress like a dowdy old woman. After reading your blog and seeing Helen, also Brenda Kinsel’s blog, I will definitely be dressing with more of an edge.
I think if you feel like a new do would bump the edge then do it. I think a cut like Kris Jenner would look good on you.

Your hair is beautiful long and you wear it different styles. Before really chopping it off practice new style with a wig!! It really gives you the feel and look to see if you love it!! Think Helen is lovely and just as I was thinking I wear jeans too much!!! Now – nope not going to change!! Just need to up my game with accessories and some bling!! New season to spruce it up.

I absolutely LOVE Helen’s hair!! I’ve gone the same color from dark brown. I love it! Certainly dont have to worry anymore about gray’s growing out. Ha! They blend in pretty well. I have soooo many pics of Helen to show my stylist. Can hardly wait to have her do mine like Helens! I’m sure I’ll probably need some extensions added for more volume though. That’s okay…I LOVE it!!!

I absolutely love your hair. I stopped coloring a year ago and let the silver and pepper come on through. I will be 50 in November and have the urge to cut it all off. (I do that about every 5-6 years). You have great style!!!

I love her easygoing, yet sure style. I am with Brenda-I would need to get a hairpiece, with my normally wavy hair. However, her hair is an announcement and looks fantastic against her tan. By and by I just piece the projectile and trim my hair short and tense. I have a huge amount of hair and it just looks better short.

Just found your site, and absolutely love Helens hair, and her great style. I’ve also been on the edge my entire career. At home for a few years now and it’s too easy to slip a little. I’ve continued to make original jewelry so accessories not a problem.
My hair is long, getting more gray though I still have a fair amount of dark color. Ready to go for Helens cut and color. What color does she actually use?
