Kaftan is a Persian word, while the garment style is believed to have originated in Ancient Mesopotamia. The Ottoman sultans from the 14th to the 18th centuries wore lavishly decorated kaftans; they were also given as rewards to important dignitaries and generals.

Carla Christoph has had a love for fashion all her life. She has a keen eye for colors and patterns and puts them together beautifully. In 2011 Carla became obsessed with kaftans. “Every woman should own at least one in her wardrobe”. She finds them perfect for all occasions. Her more elaborate kaftans are great for cruise vacations, weddings, black tie events, and cocktail/dinner parties. The casual kaftans can go anywhere. She also now is designing gorgeous tops and tunics. She prides herself on one of a kind kaftans, never duplicating, unless it is going to another city. Carla says they are perfect for any body type. “NO ONE IS TOO SHORT OR TOO BIG FOR MY KAFTANS.” It is only a matter of getting the proper measurements and voila”! They are fitted to each person’s body type so you have a shape. Rest assured, Carla’s kaftans are for a confident woman. “People will stare when you walk in the room, but only because they wonder who IS that woman”.

Yes! I’m the long lost relative: Carla’s sis-in-law (outlaws) and my bestie in high school was your friend in CA, the fabulous Bethie or now Betty. I’m so glad you found Carla’s website and love her kaftans. She has really worked hard designing and perfecting her styles. Most importantly, she works endlessly in making people feel pizzaz fab. Her customer service is rarely found in this day of Amazon and ordering online. She really personalizes every kaftan and packaging.
Every head turns when I enter a party, restaurant or grocery store wearing one of Carla’s Kaftans, I measure my kaftan inventory, not by pieces, but by linear feet on my closet rod. The thing is it has a good shape and I will send on to the SIL to see what she thinks and if she can create a KAFTAN with the same lines!WE shall pass on to GOODWILL.

I also have a closet full of Carla’s awesome caftans! It is hard to settle on just one, they are truly so beautiful and the pictures on her website don’t do them justice! I mainly wear the short ones but own about 10 long ones too. They are SO comfy! I love that I will never run into someone wearing the same thing as me.

Ceclia, you too can get the one like the Contessa! When I do solids all bets are off for the one of a kind. My website looks horrible right now! It’s never been this bare. I just did my BIG sale which I have twice a year! My customers jump on them as soon as they receive their email. Well she gave birth to three children. She may have, had a bit of middle age spread, and her breasts were probably not high and firm, or her stomach flat and tight, but I know one thing, she always possessed a ladylike presence, was kind, and forever beautiful inside and out. Unfortunately, something that is lacking in today’s world. Now run along to the gym so you won’t ever have to wear a caftan.

Lovely caftans, but I’m not sure I buy that they’d work for a small, slender person. I looked at the photos of customers, and most of them seemed quite tall, or were wearing cruel high heels.

Hi Cara, I beg to differ with you. Of course you you’ve tried a caftan off the rack I’m sure they are way too overwhelming on you but that’s the beauty of mine as I custom fit them to all sizes. I can’t tell you how many petite customers I have and they love wearing them. It’s just a matter of proportioning the caftan to your size. My mother-in-law was probably one of the chicest woman I knew and she was only 5’2 and 112 pounds but that didn’t stop her. She looked AMAZING in them. If I could add a picture here to show you I would.

I’ve never tried a caftan because it seems to me the style is inherently voluminous. Fair enough that you’ve seen small people look good in them,, but I didn’t notice any pictures of short women in flats (all I will wear) in the pictures, Carla. Maybe Elizabeth can post it.

I look forward to the pictures, Elizabeth! I am 5’1 & 1/2 and weigh 101, with very small bones, so my frame is easily overwhelmed.
I think it was close to midnight; I’m a couple of YEARS older than you, not hours or minutes.
I stopped wearing heels when I realized I wasn’t fooling anyone: I’m short, and that’s that. No profit in smashing my feet into torture footwear (and I include pointy shoes, which is why people get bunions!).

I LOVED this photo of you on Instagram, you always look fabulous but this photo of the white kaftan is my favorite. I love kaftans and have a few but do not really wear them to often. I will have to start wearing them more.

I DO remember that many a Washington D.C. dinner party hostess in the 60’s and 70’s would glide from guest to guest dressed in a Sumptuous Kaftan often dripping in jewels (and Unusual Hair Pieces). I love the simplicity of the kaftan Carla sent you. It allows your beauty to shine through. And the color scheme complements your hair too. (I’m in the process of transitioning to gray hair — so tricky!) I’ve never been one for kaftans despite their Persian origin. Probs because I’m height-impaired. Just not the most flattering look, scale-wise. But on you?!? Perfection!

Hi Mithra as I made a remark to Cara, it’s just a matter of proportion for petite women. It’s really quite an easy fix so that you are wearing the caftan and NOT the caftan wearing you!

Truly don’t know where to begin. I think I’d like a cotton one to wear around the house. I’m not ready to wear it in the city yet. I’m too short. But I can see it around the house. Hi Sandra, quite a few of you have made the comment “I’m too short” this is not the case at all. The caftan just needs to be proportioned to your size. That the great thing about my custom fit caftans. Let me know if you want to give it a whirl or should I say twirl!!

My money’s says the garden club shop turns up empty handed! You’re stunning in all of these looks, but I’m particularly partial to your newly gifted model AND that glorious gold-ish colored version with your hair do-dad. I took a scroll through Carla’s website … so many stylish woman rocking the various versions (how about those bridesmaids?) – and I’m INSPIRED.
