WE live in a LIFE where we do not have to do much DAILY to PREPARE but yet WE HAVE NO TIME!
Meaning everything gets washed by a machine.
We donot have to GO OUT and HUNT and GATHER OUR FOOD!
UNLESS WE WANT TO!
We can tell the CAR to call THE ITALIAN.
SOON the car will be DRIVING US!
DO YOU HAVE THE SAME FEELINGS AS I DO?
WHERE DOES THE DAY GO?

MY BIGGEST concern is WHAT’s FOR DINNER as THE ITALIAN wants to EAT!
We rarely GO OUT………..as we are BOTH tired at the end of the day!
Italian gets up at 4:15 AM Monday through Friday and I can be awake lying there waiting for his alarm to go off so I can go back to sleep!
Which may or May not happen!
I have always been a GOOD SLEEPER.
Lately I’m logging 9 hours a night!
But the past few years have been UNUSUAL!
I went through The menopause thing when I hit 40 and that was a BREEZE for me……I think I tossed the sheets off THREE times in the night complaining of being TOO HOT!
THAT WAS IT.
NO doctor ever spoke to me about HORMONES or any advise!
What is it with ME and DOCTORS?!
Speaking of doctors I see THAT WINNER of a DOC in NAPA in SEPTEMBER!
I cannot recall if I shared with YOU she has me DAIRY FREE as well as YEAST FREE on top of my already GLUTEN FREE REGIME!
Seems to be WORKING!
I went 52 days without an EPISODE as I call them.
If you are new here an EPISODE is when MY EYES GO I cannot see and I feel FAINT!
LASTS for minutes!
Left with a terrible HEADACHE for a day or TWO after.
I am headed into YEAR FOUR of these occurrences………..
I had THREE wrinkle lines beside each eye NOW THE FACE IS COVERED.
LOST OVER HALF MY HEAD OF HAIR.
AND have SHRUNK a full inch and a quarter!
My Bones are hurting in bed and also when I sit.
BASICALLY, I AM FALLING APART!
But let’s get back to this time THING!
I have finally FOUND COMFORT in staying HOME ALL DAY!
IT only took 59 years……..
My routine consists of rising and drinking LOTS of WATER and ONE COFFEE a day with ALMOND MILK.
I check my phone for any urgent stuff than will cruise INSTAGRAM with my coffee in hand.
Next I move to MY HOLE IN THE WALL office and check email and read BLOGS and leave COMMENTS!
Three hours can easily fly by doing that!
But I am getting NEWS Reports and RECIPES and MORE KNOWLEDGE on growing older, so it’s like READING the OLD-FASHIONED NEWSPAPER …….
Which I loved to read even as a YOUNG THING!
I can recall reading the WANT ADS as a CHILD!
Especially for PETS needing a HOME!
MAYBE that’s my next calling!
WORKING AT THE POUND!
I realized the other day at the Market I do not even scan the covers of the magazines that are at the check out!
I have No idea who those people are nor CARE anymore!
I think the KARDASHIANS absconded with THAT JOY!
Once I leave the computer; I empty the dishwasher or clean up a POT or three left from the Night before as I’m too tired to deal with it after dinner.
SAD BUT TRUE!
After dinner it’s on to THE ITALIANS’s LUNCH!
I have packed THAT LUNCH for the last 34 years!
OVER the years I have heard these remarks!
“WHERE WAS THE LOVE IN MY SANDWICH?”
“What NO SNACK?”
“Don’t give me the whole bag!”
( Contessa-WHY? ITALIAN-BECAUSE I’LL EAT IT!!!)
I can remember PAYING my youngest SON to Make his FATHER’s LUNCH just so I could have a BREAK!
THAT DID NOT LAST VERY LONG!

After the COMPUTER arrived into our life the ITALIAN told me I had to have and NEEDED a SECRET CODE NAME for my email address.
I told him I didNOT WANT AN EMAIL ADDRESS!
I gave in and stated I wanted LA CONTESSA to be my name for the email……..
Well, that name was TAKEN!
I had a little FIT and started spouting in ITALIAN pero IO SONO LA CONTESSA!
He shortened it to [email protected]!!!
Had I known the WHOLE WORLD WOULD SEE THAT I would have used MY REAL NAME!
RECALL he said, “SECRET CODE NAME!”
SO, naturally I thought it would be a SECRET!

I GET DRESSED and START MY REAL DAY by feeding the GIRLS down at the coop and scaning the GARDEN!
I do not wear the Flowered Crown to the coop as it would get caught on the BUCKEYE TREE!
YES!
We have a large BUCKEYE TREE in the chicken coop!
Isn’t that NORMAL to have a TREE in the coop so they can perch?
MY day usually entails errands or PILATES or SELF CARE MAINTENANCE which helps with my EPISODES!
After that it’s time for Lunch and to start thinking about dinner!
Back out I GO possibly for groceries or BREAD for THAT sandwich!
By 4 o’clock I am already composing a dinner menu which is small compared to what it use to be!
PASTA is seldom on the menu to START unless we have company!
I may start with a HOME-MADE soup depends on me!
Dinner consists of a Protein and a Vegetable and a GREEN SALAD.
We always end with FRESH FRUIT!

BANKSY and WINSTON and sometimes THEODORE join us at the table and have their own special fork!
Yes, they eat off of an old silver fork that is MONOGRAMED!
Which resides on an old knife rest!
Each one waits patiently for a FOOD OFFERING!

IT TRUELY is a BEAUTIFUL SIGHT!
The animals eating that is NOT MY STAINED TABLECLOTH!

I made PICKLES recently which I learned HOW TO DO on INSTAGRAM!
A gal by the name of braxtonandyancey did a video……SEE this SOCIAL media isNOT ALL BAD!
She also grabbed some seeds from a FLOWERING IVY last year and mailed to me!
BECAUSE I TOLD HER TOO!
Nothing has happened YANCY!
YET!
DO ANY OF YOU HAVE FLOWERING IVY?
I HAVE NEVER SEEN FLOWERING IVY!
BACK to TIME……….so we are at that TWILIGHT time where MOST of YOU enjoy a glass of VINO or a cocktail and I am sipping water with a LIME!
NO ALCHOL FOR ME UNTIL THEY FIGURE OUT THE TRIGGER!
Once in awhile I put an AIRBORNE tablet in my water to make it PINK to pretend the bubbles are PINK CHAMPAGNE!
IN STEMWARE OF COURSE!
Speaking of PINK CHAMPAGNE my DEAR FRIEND from AUSTRALIA arrived this summer!
She had NOT aged ONE OUNCE!
Here we are in MY GARAGE!
I DRIVE THE MINT GREEN FIAT!
YES, I fit barely!
I have had this car for SIX YEARS AND LOVE IT!
IT’s a STICK SHIFT!
ZOOM ~ ZOOM ~ ZOOM!
IT HELPS ME PRETEND I AM STILL LIVING IN ITALY!
Or so I THINK!

Even if I drive in the SLOW LANE all the time NOW!
I have MORE understanding of the older people driving!
Don’t JUDGE them because they are going SLOW!
They have their own reason for driving the way they DO.
I know I do as I have to be able to pull over at a moments notice if my eyes GO!
I GET ZERO WARNING!
Plus, where I live people DRIVE AS IF THEY ARE IN A VIDEO GAME!
TOO FAST weaving IN and OUT.
TOO MUCH FOR ME!
Or
Have I become an OLD LADY?!!

SHE EVEN RODE THE DUCATI WITH THE ITALIAN!

Theodore thought MISTER B had a GOOD IDEA!
Stare me down for their dinner hour!
IT WAS A VERY HOT DAY HERE!
These THREE eat about 4:00 PM.
But they start REMINDING me about 3:00 pm.

AND that DEAR READERS is where MY DAY goes………….ALL TOO FAST FOR ME!
How about YOU does YOUR DAY SPEED BY…………..?
This CONTESSA wants to know!
XX
PS. AND If my EPISODES are caused by a FOOD I will be EVER SO GRATEFUL!
I would have NEVER in a million years consider that to be the PROBLEM!
I PROMISE TO KEEP YOU POSTED…………..

Elizabeth, you look wonderful, though, admittedly, I am concerned about your health. Please keep us all posted……..there is so much doctors just don’t know! I am still working at Talbots, where creativity is”checked” at the door!!! However, at 78 , I am lucky to have a little job….hardest one of my life! I think they all wonder why I keep showing up, when I am soooo “needy”when I am at the computer………but I refuse to quit!! I learn something about their system daily, but if I have a few days off, I forget!!! Lucky for me most of the customers are “age appropriate”and understand more than the other employees do! Hope I have given you a chuckle……..I love, love, love your blog! (AND have your fab pic tucked into a mirror, so you know I am a true fan!) Stay on that awful diet as long as you feel better. Fondly, V.

“Where was the love in my sandwich?!?…. that line will make me smile all day. Honestly, you can do the same old thing only so many times before you get sick of it – that’s the truth.
I am so glad that you haven’t had an episode in quite a while. I hope and pray that continues forever. When I was in my early twenties, I had a period of a year where suddenly either one of my eyes would take about 30 seconds to go blind for a minute, and then about two minutes to regain my full eyesight. I have no idea what that one-year vision issue was all about. I was too young and carefree to worry about it too much, although I prayed that it would not happen while I was driving on a highway.
Have a great week, and enjoy some time well wasted.
LA CONTESSA says
AND I have a friend who LOST HER VISION on a FLIGHT HOME from New York in ONE EYE!They were able to bring it BACK but after a few attempts!A MIRACLE.
AMAZING what can be done BUT why it happens WHO KNOWS!
YES, I have received THAT LINE a FEW TIMES OVER THE YEARS!With LOVE in the sandwich everything TASTES BETTER HE SAYS!!!
SO I am DISHING LOVE IN THOSE SANDWICHES……..or at LEAST I TRY!

Your day sounds delightful, honestly. The Italian’s complaints make me smile, especially “where was the love in my sandwich?” In the mustard!
I’m impressed that diet has stopped (we hope it’s a stop and not a pause) your episodes. But I also hope that you’ll be able to narrow down the cause so you can bring back some of those foods.
As for driving, I notice that around here many elderly people (you are NOT elderly–we’re the same age) drive at 70 kph all the time, whether on the highway (where the speed limit used to be 90 kph and now is 80) or in towns (where the speed limit is 50 kph). They will be so slow on the open roads, and with the hills and curves it’s impossible to pass. And then, we get to a village and they don’t slow down at all. I think they don’t like to shift gears and just stay at the same speed everywhere.
With careful selection, social media can be very social and even heartfelt. I cried buckets when Elie died. And it can be good for information, though there’s no vetting and some stuff is just dead wrong. But there’s little harm with recipes. Still, I prefer in-person socializing, which seems to get harder and harder to organize as everybody is busier and busier.
LA CONTESSA says
THAT was my POINT but I kind of got off TARGET!I didnot know YOU followed ELLIE!Did you know I visited her in PARIS?!Took a big box of those MACAROONS (I am sure I am spelling that wrong)and she told me SHE HATED THEM!!!!

My days go by really quickly too. Work takes up most of it 🙁 and then on home to cook, wash dishes (I never installed a dish washer because the view from our kitchen window is awesome and it calms me down at the end of the day). Then, if I don’t fall asleep on the couch, I get on social media and read blogs, emails and check out IG. Then shower and off to bed. The weekends are a lot better. We get to do some things and also find some time to be lazy. Truth be told we’re more active during the cooler months than in summer because it gets crazy hot here.
Really glad to hear you are doing better and haven’t had an episode for over 50 days. I hope you continue to do well and cheer us up with your wonderful blog.
yancey williams says
I love that you wash your dishes by hand so that you may enjoy the “awesome view” from your kitchen window. I do the same thing! If its too dark outside for me to see my favorite Crepe Myrtle tree, I light a candle in the window sill, and enjoy that!
LA CONTESSA says
OH, LOREE I GET IT about the dishwasher!!!
But for me standing at the sink which is TOO LOW for me even now at under 5 foot 10 is not a good position for me to be in!CAN YOU SEE THE SEA from your window that surrounds your Homeland ISLAND?I have a PATCH of GREEN TO LOOK AT and the neighbors fence!Occasionally, THEODORABLE will be walking on THAT FENCE!

Haha! I too, wash dishes by hand. I love looking out my kitchen window while doing the dishes, only I have no green to look at living here in Joshua Tree. But I am at the beginning of The Mesa, so I see great sunrises, a few twinkling lights at night and a dry lakebed. Sometimes coyotes. I would not trade it. You should ask your doctor about taking Vitamin K2. It keeps the calcium in your bones so maybe you would not shrink in height! But since you have episodes, (I am so sorry about that, glad you are feeling a bit better!) checking with your doctor to see if K2 is okay for you first! Xo!

I WILL!
NEVER HEARD of K2!
Joshua Tree is somewhere I have not seen……..how far out of Palm Springs is that?
Will be in Palm Springs in OCTOBER!

Hello Contessa, You talk about slowing down, yet I don’t know how you fit so much in a day, and have time to make pickles, besides. I am glad to hear the good health report, and will keep my fingers crossed. I somehow knew you had a car that matched your personality. I also drove a mini-car for several years, a Mazda RX-7; lots of fun to drive. A coincidence–today I was going through a box of stuff and found a rabbit figurine signed “Yancy”. We got it at an antique show you would have liked-it was held at a charming 19th century lakeside resort (by Lake Erie), and afterward we went to the lake by an old lighthouse and watched the choppy waves splashing over the boulders.

I didn’t realize I’d shrunk until all of a sudden my daughter was looming over me! For 50 plus years, I was proud to claim every 5’4 inches of my height!
It’s a losing battle though, with my grandson and adopted grandchildren all rapidly getting taller by the day.
Your blog post bought back happy memories of packing my late husbands lunch.
So true about the day disappearing, it seems I blink and the day is over. It is usually filled with pleasant enough activities although I sporadically think I need more structure.
I pray whatever is causing your health issue, will be sorted out soon.
Hugs to you Contessa Cara

I have been practicing slowing time and holding moments in my mind. I started practicing this with my friend who was battling ovarian cancer. Time wins in the end. Ovarian cancer won that battle, too. I learned a thing. I learned to stretch moments wide and really step into them. I look deeply at what I am seeing, take a deep breath, listen, and stay open to the gifts I receive as a result. I notice the sky. I look at the shapes of the clouds. I ask where they are going. I look at the sky and wonder what it looks like across the world. I watch the birds threading and stitching the sky together. I study the trees and how the wind plays with them. Patterns are everywhere….particularly in the shadows. Listen to the wind…and the sounds it carries. NOTICING the world and all its details….just for a moment….makes that moment larger. Time moves slower, then. It also keeps you young at heart. I have forgiven time for taking my friend. I realized, because I learned to hold time still. I can conjure up the moments we spent together learning to master time….the gift keeps those moments fresh in my minds-eye…where time and my friend live.

Elizabeth,
So glad to hear you’ve had no episodes for so long!!
What gorgeous basil!
I trust you know about nutritional yeast (which is not a leavening like bread yeast, or a fermentation agent like yeast for alcohol); it gives a lovely cheesy taste when sprinkled on salads, soups, or anything. You can also make a cheesy sauce with it.
I think it should be OK with your diet, but check with your doc.
I also wonder about other food-related sensitivities you might have, that are contributing to fatigue. I highly suggest The Plant Paradox and The Longevity Paradox for the elimination of immune system and gut biome challenging foods!

Elizabeth I loved this post. I can relate. Each day seems to go by faster and I don’t know why. I especially love the mornings which are quiet and seem to hold so much promise. Kind of like Friday nights. I like you, spend a lot of time dealing with house stuff and meals and I also have my buddies reminding me when it’s lunch, dinner, etc. Too cute how Banksy and Theodore are an hour ahead of time. My cats really got messed up with the time change. I LOVE the blue ensemble on you. Your husband is so fortunate you make lunch for him. I can imagine after so many years, it gets old. Hoping you are continuing to do well. I have tried the celery juice and love it. Hugs, Kim

Dear Contessa,
I recently discovered your delightful ‘letters’ to friends – your writing is too charming to be simply a ‘blog post’. Your stories and photos are a treat and such darling pets!
I hope you will discover the source of your nasty ill-health episodes before too long and be free of the restrictions.
I’ve been the mystery illness route myself – very frustrating. Mine was eventually labeled undifferentiated auto-immune disease and left as mysteriously as it arrived. Hope you have the same luck!

Dear Contessa, even though you feel as though your day speeds by, the way you describe it sounds lovely and charming to me. I think you have a very special way of making life beautiful in all that you do. That is a wonderful gift. I think you take pleasure and joy in everything around you and you bring joy to others, even in describing what might be a mundane day. How lovely that you share it with animals, that a garden brightens your life and your table, and that you have a loving husband to cook for. Brava!
Heidi says
Hi Elizabeth,
I’m so glad those nasty episodes are under control. Now to just understand what caused them. It seems like you are on the right path though.
I envy your beautiful garden and the slow days you described. And you do look stylish – always!
My days are different now, I’m busier than ever! Just when things were slowing down, they went the other way. Hubby has been searching for a new job and my youngest daughter is back living with us full time. She’ll be working soon and back to school for her graduate degree, but still. Having two more people in the house everyday definitely makes a difference for me in the kitchen! Seems I’m always shopping for groceries, fixing something to eat, or cleaning up after. They both help, however…we never replaced the dishwasher when it went on the fritz because it didn’t seem that important with just two people making dirty dishes once a day. But now, I’m eyeing a replacement one that is fancy and quiet. Wish it could load and unload itself!
As for me lounging around, there’s not much of that though I do love to spend time with a good book! I start every day with my yoga, then into my studio for a bit. I’m teaching weekend painting workshops pretty regularly now, and leading several 6 week long classes, taking class myself, and getting ready for Open Studios. So, no day goes by without something important that needs doing. Trying to fit in creativity with the business end of being an artist is challenging, but I’m lucky I get to do what I love most days. Still no garden, what can I say priorities keep changing around here. Ugh.
XO Heidi

Tick tock, tick tock, time never stops. Running a business, a household, and cooking most evenings involves a lot of time. What I have found and what I can thank my father for is making a list each day. I think it’s very helpful for those who aren’t very organized and don’t know where to begin their day. The list might include something as mundane as, make my bed or pay bills, but there is something to to be said about crossing off that item from your list. One feels like they have accomplished something at the end of the day. For me time is definitely moving faster then when I was a child. In the blink of an eye we will be celebrating another New Year. While I think the computer and social media is great, it has also stolen much time from us and interacting with one another. I fear the younger generations won’t know how to have just a normal conversation! It’s nice to literally stop and smell the roses or lay in the grass on a pretty day and just look up at the sky and let your mind take you where it wants. On another note Elizabeth, I do hope this situation has been resolved and I wish you only the best of health. Sounds like your doing something right and hopefully your doctor in Napa will give some insight as well. P.S. Have you ever packed your husband an empty carton of lunch and written a note inside that said, I’m sorry, I was too tired to make your lunch, your on your own today. Love Contessa
LA CONTESSA says
I DO MAKE A LIST AND IT DOES HELP!!!!

It is actually quite funny that I am reading this today. Today my son started back to school; he is a sophomore this year. Boy, where did the time go on this one? I am up very early everyday. Perhaps not quite as early as the Italian, but early enough to watch the beautiful sunrise just about every morning with my Leo. I come home and set my intentions for the day, and then sit down to that first cappuccino of the morning. I usually go straight to Instagram and say hello to the World! Then it’s time to get my son up and moving and hopefully filled with a few breakfast bites before we hit the road. And this all happens before 8 am!
Keep me posted on the Napa Doctor. We are all watching over you very carefully.

“WHERE WAS THE LOVE IN MY SANDWICH?” I BURST out in laughter when I read that line-to the point that my Stomach hurt. By any chance did Anyone get a picture of your FACE in response to that question? !!!!!! As to the passing of time ……Summer is coming to an end. I know that because the Cicada’s are no longer Calling. I have listened for them since Childhood. I first heard them in the beginning of August-it seems late afternoon is their favorite time-Crescendo hits just as the Sun is setting and then Silence. Late last week I heard the DEAFENING sound on my windowsill. Isn’t it AMAZING that a creature that size can make Sound so Loud I had to cover my ears????? Thankfully I have screens or I am sure it would have wandered in. The second the Sun set-SILENCE and I have not heard another one since. Ciao Contessa,
I hear you, girlfriend!! Where does the day go? Busy, busy, fuss, fuss (minus the critters, furry or feathered, in my case)…My day is rather structureless, in that I don’t Work any more, but the never-ending cycle of Domestic Stuff fills the void – quite happily, I might add – and before you know it, it’s time for lights out! But I’m easily distracted by Shiny Things and have so many things and projects planned/simmering along/languishing that I do get cross when the day is done and I’ve not done a fraction what I would have back in the Olden Days when a solid working week was also a beast to be tackled. Work expands to fill the time…But the suggestion of a daily list is always worth considering, haha…
The social media question? Well it is a void for sucking the minutes and hours away, true, and I chastise myself for not getting around to tending the tumbleweeds on my own blog, but disparate lives do intersect there and without it, I’d never have been privy to your enchanting world!
Good to hear you are without symptoms for nearly two months!! That Diet does sound Austere & Humourless but you are giving it a good makeover with the refined table accessories and what not, which is absolutely necessary otherwise it’d drive someone like me to tears. Luckily for me, I have no diet issues but the past couple of months I’ve stopped drinking wine at home and only having it as a sociable treat when going out. I just feel ruined these days if I have more than a couple of glasses. I once used to look sideways at the Italian lady in-laws who’d water down their wine but now I’m joining in! Oh, do brace yourself for maybe getting the word Ideopathic bandied about with regard to your Episodes. My own health turn that had me floored for a bit a couple of years ago was so-labelled. It’s a fancy medical term to say you’ve been stricken with a bolt from the blue!!

As always, you look fabulous. I am glad you are feeling better. Regarding feeling tired, this could be anemia. iron deficiency, low blood count. Blood Builders by Mega Foods is a great supplement for this. (Amazon carries this and the customer reviews are great.) Also for bone/ joint ache, have you had a bone density test? Do you take calcium, 1,200 mg daily? Even with the calcium. sometimes bone loss is an issue. Find a good endocrinologist and he/she will order a bone density test as well as evaluate your bone health. You are a very important active person and you must continue to feel your best. Blogland wants you well!

What a enchanting experience reading through your day. A lovely way to do your blog. And you look gorgeous in blue! I never made my husband’s lunch; he always ate at the hospital, but if I had and he complained I would have thrown a sandwich at him and hope the mayo made it stick! You are so gracious continuing to do it day after day. I am glad your ‘episodes’ have been slowing down, and I hope continued dietary exploration narrows down the cause. While your day may not sound very full, I know that with fatigue as an ongoing companion, anything one does is so tiring. My days are so full of chosen good things that make me so busy that I have not even done Instagram for a few weeks or email for a few days. Dearest Contessa – I often wonder, too, where does the day go? I feel busy yet get nothing done. Unlike you, I have no husband excuse. No lunch or dinner being made over here as he is typically ‘on the road’ all week. The dogs take up a huge chunk of the morning … we walk the reservoir. There are so many things for them to smell and wonder at – and be distracted by – that it takes quite a bit longer than if I were to do it without them. Newspapers and magazines are something I miss too. I have no idea who graces the cover of People anymore (no Kardashian’s, please), but if they put a Royal on the cover I snap it up. So much information available online, yet I feel ill informed. Why is that? Perhaps its best. Back in the day when I community on BART to the City I read the Chronicle on the way in and the Examiner on the way home … or a book. I’ve recently gone back to reading real books – not the E-reader version. I like it. I’ll be interested to hear what your WINNING doctor has to say … 52 days episode-free is good news indeed. I love you in blue! xo

Twelve years of retirement have taught me that this kind of life can be bittersweet. Pleasing myself and not having to do anything much comes with a lot of time for going over old memories and vaguely worrying about not doing anything. Today I am enjoying myself pottering in an unusual heatwave and very glad I have no commitments whatsoever. I have recently watched two Italian films – Mid-August Lunch and The Salt of Life. They are both very gentle and quietly humorous about ageing. Both are produced by Gianni di Francesco.

Hi there CONTESSA – enjoyed the blog and pics.
Does my day(s) speed by – sometimes and other times no. The day starts with the lovely Bella (rescue cat) crawling all over me at 5:00 am wanting OUT. She leaves my husband alone. Before June she slept until 7:00 am. June/July was 4:00 am wake up. This was too tiring for me. Never felt rested = tired for 2 months. 5:00 am I can manage – then I go back to sleep. Get up at 9:30 – dear husband has made the coffee – drink and read online news – emails and a couple of blogs. Check your’s ALWAYS for new pics or a new post.
There has been very little work for me this summer which is great – I can enjoy the garden = veggies and flowers. Sit on the deck and watch all the bees come to the flowering herbs and the 2 hummingbirds come to their plants. Each week I pick a bouquet of flowers for someone. I go to the huge public outdoor pool 2x week. Sit – relax – read and have a little swim.
I avoid downtown as much as possible in summer as it’s cruise ship season here and there are so many tourists.
Lucky me has to do no grocery shopping or dinner making – my husband does it – unless like tomorrow I am having some girlfriends over for brunch then I shop/prepare.
I’m at the stage in life where I do not want to rush about – I want to take it easy – spread out a little bit of socializing etc. thru the month. I have what I call do nothing days – just enjoy nature in my yard or go for a walk somewhere. Read and hang about at home. This is so relaxing and pleasurable. I’m enjoying do nothing days more and more.
So this summer the days are not speeding by. Fall will be different as I will be scheduled more for work.
Wow the Italian has such long days. The best part is that he has a wonderful place/person/food/animals to come home to. Nature in his backyard.
Oh dear – so sorry to read that your bones are hurting. I do hope the dr can figure that out. What a relief re not having any episodes. It would be frustrating too to want to do more but not have the energy for it. Hopefully your health will be on the upswing in the fall.

TIME. I think about it a lot (even time travel and space travel, as in ‘space-time,’ a very real scientific term : ) It is ever present, yet unseen and intangible…on a grand scale, measured by our daily pirouette and yearly spin around the the sun, and on earth, by the sweeping hands of a clock. I have always loved clocks, especially old clocks, (I like things that are old more than new, probably because I am old), that gently tick away as the pendulum swings back and forth. The sound is comforting and safe, and hearkens back to simpler time. As I read this post, I was carried back to my childhood, and my mother and grandmother wearing a smock aprons (that were very well used) and the great swaths of time needed for the care and feeding of a family. Your routine reminds me of the ticking of a clock, as you carry on the daily tasks of living–with a tremendous amount of love. To the question, ‘Where is the love?’ It is you. XOXO
