It’s the last Thursday of the month so it is time for AGELESS STYLE. Cindy Hattersley and I each interview someone over 50 who we think has great style.WE are entering OUR THIRD YEAR DOING THIS FEATURE CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?CINDY had to TALK me into doing this…. Found here http://hesca.net/soma/ the precautions and instructions for Soma in general, but would like to get a real experience. Is it really stated there all the possible? I just want to be sure on how it may really go, because sometimes organizations are trying to hide the real adverse effects that may arrive when it’s already late to sue them… CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?I ABSOLUTELY LOVE SEARCHING OUT THESE WOMEN AND SHARING WITH YOU ALL!MY ONLY WISH for 2020 is ALL the PAST AGELESS STYLE LADIES will SPEAK OUT IN THE COMMENT SECTION a support group would be LOVELY to SEE and READ!THAT is HOW This could become even BETTER to VIEW!
WE all have our own individual style and can learn from each other! We are A GOOD SUPPORT for one another even if WE HAVE NEVER MET!
Chime in from time to time! It’s just plain old GOOD FUN!
Diana and I met at THAT BOUTIQUE I talk about called CHATEAU BEL AGE in San Diego, CALIFORNIA………about four or five years ago NOW!
I have been an overnight GUEST in her HOME and a BIRTHDAY GAL at a DINNER PARTY she had for me last year!
PLEASE LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO DIANA AMATO here is her story!
I was raised in Upstate New York and moved to San Diego when I was 22 years old. Throughout the years, my home has always been the go to place for dinner parties and family gatherings. My mom and dad would travel from New York a week before a big party and help me create celebrations for 40 or more people right in my home! Hence, I am a self taught chef who has gathered all the handed down recipes and the stories that go with them. I have been inspired to write a cookbook that showcases these recipes, and the healthier versions of some of them. It also tells the story of the amazing women and men who have lived and loved through the food they prepared for their family and friends. I also host cooking classes in my home. This is a new part of the adventure and is just getting started.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
I am drawn to lean, long looks. I am 5’9” with really long legs, yet I am also built with a lot of curves. A great pair of jeans, cigarette pants, and yes, leggings are all basic building blocks in my wardrobe. My style is eclectic and at times edgy and street smart, but it is always softened with something very feminine.

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR SIGNATURE STYLE?
I love to feel strong and empowered. At times, I use dressing as a way to armor myself. By nature, I am very shy. I’m happy to be in the background just watching. So, when it’s time to go out and about, I choose clothes that make me feel not only comfortable, but also well put together and strong.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ACCESSORY?
I love my collection of sunglasses. I have the same Versace pair that Prince wore the day that Bryant Gumbel interviewed him on the Today show, probably over 25 years ago. Living in La Jolla, Ca, I have need for sunglasses almost everyday of the year. I’m also guilty of using them to keep my hair away from my face!

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE COLOR COMBINATIONS?
I love turquoise and orange, fuchsia and black, and I do love black on black.

DO YOU HAVE A SIGNATURE PIECE THAT DEFINES YOUR STYLE? It’s difficult for me to pick one piece. Although if I really narrow it down, there are two things I can’t be without. The first is a good basic cashmere sweater with a slight v-neck. It is something I use almost everyday of my life around my home. I have been buying the same style cashmere sweater from the Scottish Woolen Mill since I was a teenager! The second is a tapestry crossbody bag from Portmanteau in Portland, Maine. I love this small company! Every year they buy a certain amount of fabric to make all sorts of amazing handmade bags and totes. When the bolts of fabric have been used up, that’s it! You now own a collector’s piece!

WHAT ARE YOUR STYLE STRENGTHS?
I come from an Italian and Polish background and that means very long legs (the Polish side) and a whole lot of curves to go with it(obviously the Italian side). I have to dress to keep everything proportionate. For me this means minimizing the top half and bringing attention to my legs.

DO YOU HAVE A STYLE MUSE?
I adore the Italian film actresses and models because I can easily relate to their body type. For me, the beauty and timelessness of Sophia Loren incomparable.
In today’s world, I adore Monica Bellucci.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE BEAUTY PRODUCTS,AND WHY CAN’T YOU LIVE WITHOUT THEM?
The majority of my skincare regime comes from Skin Medica products. A good face cleanser, vitamin C oil, hyaluronic acid skin serum and a light moisturizer are all part of my daily routine. I have been using these products for years now. After the birth of my son, I developed many dark spots on my face. Over time, with the help of these products and good nutrition, much of this problem has lessened.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR WOMEN OVER 50?
I’ll be 55 this year!! We can never drink enough water. I drink alkaline water daily. The health benefits of this for me have been unbelievable. I have struggled with inflammatory issues surrounding my joints and this is definitely one of the things that has helped me the most. Taking time to find balance and peace in this crazy paced world is so important. I love to watch the sunrise with my 8-year-old Australian Shepherd, Leo. The rest of the world is still sleeping while I get a glimpse of the wonderful universe around me.
DO YOU HAVE ANY STYLE RULES THAT YOU LIVE BY,OR DO YOU CHOOSE TO BREAK THE RULES?
I style my life and my wardrobe to be authentic to myself. When I feel comfortable in my environment and in my clothes, I feel invincible! No rules, other than to be true to myself and to let others do the same!
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONLINE AND BOUTIQUE SOURCES?
Locally in San Diego, I do much of my shopping at Chateau Bel Age. It is a unique shopping experience where many one of a kind pieces can be found. It has become a bit of a magnet for me and there are times I just like to stop by there to hangout! I love the cut and fit of Wit&Wisdom jeans from Nordstrom. This jean just understands my body! I have been wearing their brand for over 15 years! Of course, Johnny Was is also my go to for something whimsical, feminine and utterly gorgeous.
DO YOU HAVE A PARTICULAR DIET OR EXERCISE REGIME THAT YOU FOLLOW?
I follow a fairly easy anti-inflammatory diet which includes lots of berries and citrus, dark leafy vegetables and clean protein like fish and lean beef. High fiber foods, whole-grain breads and legumes keep it all heart healthy. When I use butter, it is European or Irish. And of course, I use plenty of extra virgin olive oil. I walk almost 5 miles every morning and spend 20 minutes everyday stretching.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ANTI-AGING FOODS AND OR SUPPLEMENTS THAT ARE YOUR GO TO’S?
I take folic acid, a good multi vitamin and B12 daily. I think perhaps the best part of the day is to savor a glass of really good wine and appreciate all that I have. Does this qualify as anti-aging?

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE DESIGNER YOU ARE DRAWN TO?
There is a beautiful, creative and inspiring young designer here in San Diego. Her name is Jennafer Grace; I call her my Kimono Girl! I adore her designs and her attitude about life as an Artist. I think I actually own one of her original kimonos. They are timeless, so well made and certainly worth the investment.

Dear Cindy,
Thank you for your lovely compliments. Elizabeth sure knows how to get me to step outside of my box. Personally, I think wine is so good for you, on so many levels. I’ll be popping over to your blog before the afternoon is out. You both have raised the awareness for women over 50 is the BEST OF WAYS!
Jennafer grace says
I love this powerful combination of women! Thank you so much for the highlight!
Diana – I love that detail about your parents coming a week early to help you throw an amazing party. This so explains how trained you are to think of everything! I adore you and am so grateful to call you my friend.
Diana Amato says
My mom and dad knew how to create the best events! Every year they would put on a Spaghetti Dinner for the local high school, as a fundraiser. The whole community would turn out for this event. I wonder if there is even anything like this anymore? As friendships go, I’m pretty the darn lucky one!
Linda says
I agree that Jennafer Grace Kimonos are the bomb! Gorgeous fabrics, well made, and you can style them in so many ways.
LA CONTESSA says
SO TRUE!
I will be having HER for lunch next month so I look forward to seeing HER IN PERSON!
Think I’ll DON a KIMONO for THAT DAY!
XX
Diana Amato says
I was enthralled with these Kimonos from the moment I first saw them. I didn’t have a clue where, when or how I would wear them, but I didn’t care. I own a few of these now, and I just love how easy a pulled together look they create.
NancyMary says
Diana, I agree the kimonos were love at 1st sight for me too. What a way to create a fresh and simple look that is timeless ? Jennafer Grace ? thank you XO

LA CONTESSA says
I know TRADER JOES HAS it the water but I like the idea of going to a WATER STORE!!!!The little bit I read on line says it cleans out the body and ONE CAN LOSE WEIGHT JUST BY DRINKING IT!!!
WE need to Investigate MORE and I’m sure DIANA will SHARE MORE INFO here later today!THRILLED TO HAVE HER TOO!

Diana Amato says
The black cashmere sweater can be found online at the Edinburgh Woolen Mills, ewm.co.uk. The cashmere is washable under the Lochmere label. I buy a women’s XL because I have never liked tight tops.
Alkaline water is a high ph water, usually 8.5 or higher. It helps to remove so many toxins and other wastes that cling inside the digestive and intestinal tracts. In my case, having been diagnosed with RA, alkaline water has helped me beyond measure to keep the inflammation in my body at a minimum.
I have felt a connection to you from the minute we met. You always make me smile. I’m so thrilled to be a part of the fun here this week!

Really enjoyed this interview with Diana. I remember all the photos thru the years of the parties of the two of you together, having fun.

Thank you, Robin, for your very kind words. I have every intention of returning to Toscana this year sometime. I was fortunate enough to be able to spend a month there last fall. I always leave a piece of my heart in Italy, every time I visit. Soon, I will have to live there just to keep my heart together! I would certainly love to ask you many questions about your life in Italy. One day perhaps we can meet over a caffè or aperitivo.
Robin says
I would love to meet you in person.
We live in Umbria, on the Tuscan border, near Cortona. We are surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, in the Umbrian hills. I would love to answer any questions you have about life in Italy.
Where do you base yourself in Tuscany?

Ooooh, another beautiful lady featured in ageless style! I so enjoy these posts, Contessa. Diana is gorgeous. I love her black leggings that look like leather and those boots in the middle pic. They are kind of a violet color with a pattern? I WANT. I’d love to hear about this special water. Is it filtered, Diana? I am the same age as you and notice I’m often thirsty. Not sure if it’s the menopause or what. I drink a ton of water. I also should take vitamins so I’ve gotten lots of great health suggestions today. I also do think counting our blessings and appreciating our life is anti-aging better than any creams.
LA CONTESSA says
I’ll let HER ANSWER but YES I AGREE!
PLUS WRINKLES and SMILES, LAUGHING and SOCIALIZING!
THE MORE THE MERRIER in my opinion!
XX
Diana Amato says
The violet/fucsia boots are stretch burnt out velvet from Poetic License Shoes. They are a little vintage by now, but have definitely stood the test of time.
The alkaline water is definitely filtered to achieve a higher ph balance, usually 8.5 or higher. I find that I am more thirsty these days, too. I squeeze fresh lemon into my water and this really helps with the dehydration. Lemons are also great for neutralizing acids in the body, which also create thirst. I think it’s all about keeping the body in balance.
For me, there is no healthier way to live than to appreciate the littlest of moments. Thank you for your lovely comments.

Diana Amato says
Hi Michelle,
The benefits of alkalized water are wonderful. It helps with everything from reducing inflammation in the body to aiding in the release of toxins and waste. An alkalized system cannot support unhealthy bacteria, and in some instances, even cancer cells. It hydrates the body more effectively, because it neutralizes acids in the digestive and intestinal tracts. For me, it has helped beyond measure with my diagnosis of RA.
If you will give me a couple of days, I will post my chicken recipe on my blog at http://www.dianaamato.com
Every week I am posting about Life Around My Table, and there, I share my recipes. Thank you for all of your interest.

I’ve felt a connection to you the moment we met. I love your style, both inside and out. I feel we have the same body type. I’d love to know where you get your sweaters. I have a problem with that upper area. I’d also like to know what water you drink. I love your flamboyants yet at the same time you just look right. You’re the perfect fit for this series. I also adore your cooking and can’t wait for your cookbook. You’re fabulous! So glad Elizabeth picked you and you agreed. Loved reading your post.

In my next life, I want to come back as a woman that is 5’9 and has really long legs. Diana has great style. And her culinary skills!! Wowza. Love this series. Hope you both have a fabulous weekend!!
Diana Amato says
Good morning Katie!
I have learned over the years that we all want something we think we don’t have! I used to get teased that tables had better looking legs than me! And that is why I have learned to find the humor in life’s little quirks. I love to cook. I think it really is therapy for me. Thank you and I hope your weekend is wonderful.
Diana Amato says
Contessa,
I am so happy and appreciative that you featured me this morning! This is such a supportive and loving community you have created here. I’m thrilled to be a part of it!
Knowing that there are is a place that we can all authentically express ourselves is so important as we grow older. We grow together more beautifully, and with more resilience!
I’ve seen a lot of questions about Alkaline Water! In a brief description, the higher the ph the higher the alkalinity. There are many things that cannot survive in a higher alkaline environment, including cancer cells! Take some time to research all the benefits and all the types of filtration systems that are available. From high ph waters sold at the grocery stores to whole house filtration systems, there are many choices out there. I go to my local water store in Clairemont, San Diego, Ca. There, they have a great machine that produces are very good high ph filtered water.
Higher ph water is great for the elimination of toxins in the digestive and intestinal tracts, it is also great for the skin!
You made my World a better place this morning! THANK YOU!

In my late teens I thought that basic black was the only way to dress. Still to this day, I call it my warrior uniform. Little by little I added pops of color, until very little black was anywhere to be seen. So much of dressing for me is about how I feel. Does anyone else relate to this?

Hi Elizabeth,
What a fun community you’ve created here! I love these style posts, so far everyone has been fascinating, including the comments, and I’ve learned something new today about that water. I’m going to find out more!
Diana has a lovely smile and infectious positivity. Her style is really fun, too! Love those gorgeous fuchsia over-the-knee-boots! I wish there was more opportunity for dressing “all out” around here. This beach/university community is so laid back that when I get dressed often I feel over-dressed if I’m not wearing jeans and a tee (which I rarely do) ! But I try to pull myself together and look forward to dressing, actually. It’s always nice to get inspiration from women close to my own age, rather than “style icons” who are in their 20’s! Or all the college girls around here in their torn jeans, flip flops or combat boots, and messy buns!
Hope you are feeling well and enjoying your garden as it comes to life again this Spring.

There are so many healthy and delicious choices for reducing inflammation in the body. The alkalized water is just the start. Lemons, blueberries, cilantro, ginger, celery, fresh raw garlic, and spirulina are just a few off the top of my head. If you have a minute, my Anti Inflammatory Salad recipe is on my blog. It’s my go-to salad during the week. Back in January, I did a little series of anti inflammatory recipes, there you will find it.
My mom is originally from Wallkill, near Kingston, NY. I grew up outside of Albany!
Thank you for your beautiful comments.

As I told you over on IG, I’ll be following along on your stylish, delicious and fabulous adventures. Thanks so much to La Contessa and Cindy for this stylish series and introducing us all.

I love Diana’s style. I, too, love a great pair of jeans, cigarette pants or leather pants and maybe a silk midi skirt with a crisp white shirt or a cashmere sweater and great accessories. My style varies from elegant elevated casual to street smart. Yesterday I had one of my twice yearly appointments with my cardiologist–chemotherapy was not kind to my heart–and the woman who did my EKG said when they saw my name on the list of patients to be seen that day, they were all excited to see what I would be wearing. She said I did not disappoint. How nice! She made my day. xoxox, Brenda

Hello Diana…I feel as if I know you from your inspiring IG accounts; how lovely getting to know you a little better!
You do such a fabulous job of accentuating your natural beauty AND obviously have amazing fashion sense. You inspire this 63 year old to put a little more effort into her everyday look, since lately my days mostly involve dog walking, a bit of gardening and trip to the grocery store.
How did I not know you had a blog, and one with recipes? Must follow ASAP.
Your statement of love made with rocks just warmed my soul…you’re a girl after my own heart.
Great pick, Elizabeth. So so love your ageless style features…you and Cindy are the BEST!
Love…always.

Hello Stephanie,
What a wonderful place this is to be able to connect with people! I have been inspired by these posts for a few years now. It somehow makes us all a little more real. I can definitely relate to spending days dog walking, gardening and trips to the grocery store. If you throw in my bus driving duties for my son and his friends, you kind of get a picture of what my daily life is all about. When I’m out gardening, I’m in old clothes with work gloves! That’s me!
I’m so glad that you appreciate my Heart Rock. That just starts my day off in the right direction.
Thank you most sincerely for your beautiful comments!

Drinking ALKALINE water as I type… I had never heard of this (or looked at the top shelf of water section in grocery store) before reading Diana’s comments. It honestly tastes different than regular bottled water. Loved reading about her… lifestyle, routines, etc….another inspirational woman! The heart-shaped rock design is so beautiful… I want to replicate with seashells : ) This series is fun, educational, and fascinating. It is so encouraging and uplifting to meet women like Diana…

Thank you very much for sharing a little time here. We all have so many things that make us unique, yet somehow, we all connect in so many similar ways. Personally, I love the taste of alkalized water. It has more of a mineral taste and it seems that there is a lot less effort to drink it.
I like your idea of a heart made out of seashells. Make sure to share it with all of us here. I think the simple things truly bring the most heartfelt pleasures.
Thank you for your kindness.

Another fabulous post of ageless style Contessa! How do we get Diana’s cookbook? I too love to cook and I’m always looking for new recipes to try. I bet being invited to her home is full of fun, laughter and great food! Obviously her parents enjoy being at the party, traveling cross country just to be there! Also made a note about the alkaline water. My hubby has some inflammatory issues and maybe this would help him too. Diana is inspiring and has great style. Thank you for sharing her with all of us.

Dear Carla,
I am at the stage of trying to source the right fit for publishing. In the meantime, I post recipes on my blog, which can be found at http://www.dianaamato.com
I usually do a little monthly series of 3-4 recipes that highlight the celebrations occurring in that month. In January, I did a series of anti inflammatory recipes that may be of interest to you for your husband.
Thank you for your lovely comments.

So wonderful to see Diana featured here my dear! So wonderfully done! I really appreciate the behind the scenes health and fitness components to this interview! Diana has such inner and outer beauty and grace! Her heart formation is truly breathtaking!
Thank you dearest Contessa for another inspiring interview! Now I must hop over to Cindy’s blog! Hope you are well my friend! Your side blog photos are also such style inspiration!! Huge kudos for all you do to inspire! Big, big hugs my uber stylish friend! xoxo
Diana Amato says
Thank you, Tamera, for all of your beautiful comments and for being such an amazing inspiration and friend to me. I truly believe that all beauty begins inside, where the most fragile parts of us exist. As you know, my health has been a bit of a struggle and the only way for me to keep things in check is to keep myself in balance with regular exercise and good nutrition.
That rock heart is a labor of love and I have admittedly been adding to it for over 10 years now. I hope you are well and I am always in awe of your beautiful photo captures.

Diana – I LOVE your style. Especially the sunglasses.
Diana Amato says
Good morning Kathie,
Thank you for your compliments. My daughter thinks my sunglass collection is pretty special, too! She actually keeps telling everyone in our family that there will be NO arguments over the sunglasses because they are going to be hers! (Haha)
I have been following you on Instagram for quite some time now. I adore following your beautiful world at Rose Bud Cottage! Congratulations to you on your success with “False Victim”!
Andrea Charles says
That was quite an interview!! Diana is perfect in any cloth she adorns. Her sense of style is too good. Diana is aware of her positives and is good at using that to her styling. I hope the alkaline water that you drink brings respite to the inflammation. Anyway, it was great knowing you, Diana. Thank you, Cindy, for posting this great interview.
Diana Amato says
Dear Andrea,
Thank you for leaving such an uplifting comment. I have been amazed at how kind and supportive everyone has been here! For me, nutrition and lots of water are the answer to most of my inflammatory problems. Who knew that being 50+ was going to come with discussions such as this?
I hope you are having a wonderful day and again, many thanks!

Diana, I think you are lovely and I adore the way you live and your outlook. We are the same age, I will also be 55 this year. I am inspired by your pretty mix of color and fabrics in the way you dress. I agree about the anti-inflammatory diet, but I will check out the alkaline water, which I do not know about. Love this post! xo
