Today is the last day of November am I reeving up for the holidays?
NO, not really………….this will be the first year it will be just the TWO OF US!
(Photo by CARLA COULSON of PARIS years ago!)
If you have never seen these photos you may enjoy as they will take you off to PARIS!
They are on my HOME page up top under LA CONTESSA
click on PORTRAIT SHOOT in PARIS under this photo and off you GO!
click…HERE
IT IS FASTER!
Thats the LOUVRE behind me and THE GIRLS surround me……………
Next we went inside the LOUVRE and placed THE GIRLS at COAT CHECK so they were secure!
Can you imagine the LOOKS we got?!!
PRICELESS,
Off to the FRENCH STATUE ROOM we went!
WITHOUT PERMISSION!!
IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE TIMES OF MY LIFE.
MEANWHILE, back to TODAY November of 2020;
At home one morning I woke up with a very small
TICK in my head.
I think I am more alarmed about the lack of hair in my head than the damage that little tiny bug did.
BOY OH BOY did it HURT for two days!
WHICH IS WEIRD!
I have had TICKS before but they NEVER hurt like this little guy!
Of course my doctors did not want to see me and we did get the HEAD OUT……..
Funny story here.
My DOCTORESSA was not available
so they gave me another DOCTORESSA to video chat with about THE TICK TALE.
She took one look at me and said ,”I KNOW YOU! YOU HAVE A PIG?!”
Seems I saw her a few years ago!I did not remember which is unusual for me BUT SHE DID!
SO, this BANKSY BOY is opening doors for me!She could have not been MORE PLEASANT!
PLUS, PLUS, PLUS ALL THE WAY AROUND FOR ME!
Lets hope LYME DISEASE is NOT in my future………..
That would DO ME IN.

PHOTO of my head and where THE TICK left his MARK!

THE ITALIAN climbed a mountain and cut down our CHRISTMAS TREE……..
SMALLEST TREE EVER for us………..but its perfect!
He will do the lights and we will do the ornaments together…….
THAT ITALIAN puts the tree lights on a TIMER so when I get up in the morning the lights are on.
I have to say I ENJOY THAT SO MUCH.
START time 4 am until 9 am.
Evening start time is 5pm until 10 pm.
If you want MORE or LESS time all you need to do is hit a switch!
TIMERS AVAILABLE AT HARDWARE SHOPS!
Hopefully, we can make THIS TREE MAGICAL……….stay tuned!
See that empty URN in the GARDEN?
I need ideas.
I had topiary cypress trees for years but they grew roots into the ground and bent sideways so I have given up on them.
I want something new,
I HAVE FIVE OF THESE URNS..
NOTHING is popping into my head.I did IMAGINE olive trees as they grow slow but its not GRABBING ME!
Please put your TWO CENTS in the COMMENTS as maybe THE ITALIAN will BUY for my CHRISTMAS CHEER!
AT least we would have something to do on Christmas Day!
Well, HE would. I would DIRECT!
I found an eye concealer I really, really like!
You can even use as a foundation!
HERE IS THE LINK!
Let’s see if I can make~up my face for a photo………..I shall do a BEFORE and AFTER!
I am still DOUBLE CLEANSING!
HAVE TO SAY I LOVE A BALM CLEANSER

Price point is $19.00.
Let’s chat about our routines during this TIME of staying at HOME.
SHALL WE?
Here is MY DAY not too exciting I am afraid.
MAYBE WE CAN GIVE EACH OTHER SOME IDEAS!
I get up drink a glass of water and take one pill.
Next I grab my phone see if I have any EXCITING TEXTS MESSAGES.
Then I scroll the Instagram feed for the Garden Club maybe post a new photo.
Once that is done I make a coffee and move myself into my tiny dark office
TO HAVE A SERIOUS RELATIONSHIP WITH MY COMPUTER!
WE GET DEEP AND EMOTIONAL AND SOMETIMES I HIT THAT RETURN BUTTON TOO FAST!
Hours can pass…………with the ADS, the BLOGS, and the NEWSPAPERS.
I finally pull myself away to have some toast and get dressed.
I NEVER STAYED IN MY NIGHTGOWN AND ROBE FOR THE WHOLE DAY!
NOT ONE DAY which surprises me!
Most days NO make up as I would add another moisturizing cream to the face early afternoon.
I thought of it as my DEEP SKINCARE ROUTINE.
Do you realize come the 17th of December we will have been at this for NINE MONTHS!
I picked up a COVID PEN PAL EXTORDINAIRE during these past few months!
She happens to have worked behind a retail make up counter years ago and knows her way around a few of the essentials out there FLOATING ABOUT!
She also has TWO MASTERS DEGREES(not in cosmetics) and we write back and fourth!
About anything and EVERYTHING!
She CAN TYPE people as her responses come BACK TO ME at lightning speed!
I would like to suggest for YOU to find a PEN PAL during this TIME.
( MY MOTHER use to tell me to take typing in school!I never did!!LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER’s!)
IN the afternoons I tend to sit in the LIVING ROOM and READ..
Or watch a NETFLICK’S LIKE THE CROWN or THE QUEENS GAMBIT.
I LOVED THE CROWN.
QUEENS GAMBIT I am not done with BUT I found it to be a bit slow.
TV in the afternoon just started this past month.I NEVER have turned the TV on during the day time!
We had rain so I thought it would be OKAY to do……
Other then that I do cook a dinner every night and that is usually the FIRST thing I think about upon ARISING!
MY MENU!
I have the table set by 3 in the afternoon.
I do call people to check in but even that I have slowed down on.
BAD ME!
I have ENJOYED polishing our silverware and silver frames I use to COLLECT.
I am definitely out of space to place a frame.
NO MORE COLLECTING of FRAMES!
I DO LAUNDRY ONCE A WEEK.
I GROCERY SHOP about TWICE A WEEK.
Keep looking for those SILVER LININGS WONDERFUL READERS……
IT HAS BEEN A JOYFUL WAY TO SPEND SOME TIME AT HOME
I DO FEEL BETTER ONCE DRESSED FOR THE DAY A HEAD.
Of course I always have WINSTON underfoot so he slows me down a wee bit………..but I do not run like I use too.
I have come to THE REALIZATION that I will NEVER be able to do as much as I would like to do.
THAT IS A HARD THING TO ACCEPT……

Hi Elizabeth,
How about some topiary for your pots ? I’m into topiary and have just emptied a lot of our pots and planted some topiary balls. Google Anouska Hempel ….. she is of our age, was an actress and then an interior designer, opening boutique hotels…. a very beautiful woman. She is a noted figure in London society ! She also designs gardens. Have a look at her home … Cole Park Malmesbury, Wiltshire. My claim to fame regarding her ….. she was our patient when I worked in Mayfair in London ….. other than that, she is out of my league ??? but, I love the gardens she does. That tick looks nasty ….. hope it heals soon. XXXX

Hello Contessa, I hope that you are recovered from that ordeal! I too once went into a closed area of a museum. I was in the Victoria and Albert in London, and in a darkened, roped-off gallery I spotted a huge Egyptian scepter made of blue faience. I had to have a closer look, so I snuck in and took some photos (which were allowed). Luckily, no one caught me or yelled at me.

One of the BEST things my mother insisted upon was summer typing classes. My sister and I begrudgingly sat for hours and days on end learning how to navigate a typewriter keyboard. I wanted nothing more than to be outside riding my bike and being free to be a young girl. Instead I learned this invaluable ability. Moms know best!

VIA EMAIL FROM MARY!
Daily routine, huh? My routine is so simple daily. Dog wakes me up early with a roll on his back and demand for a belly rub and massage, and then we head downstairs so he can get his chow, and I can make some coffee. He normally waits on the stairs until I call him for breakfast which consists of endless pills for his seizures, along with very specialized dry food, a boiled egg, a half of a spoon of coconut oil, a couple of slices of banana, etc. I get my toast, coffee and give him a couple of cookies before sending him outside while I head upstairs to make the bed and take my endless heart pills, wash my face and brush my teeth. My makeup routine is pretty much the same daily. I usually do this prior to dressing with the exception of lipstick which I put on after I am dressed.
I wash my face with No 7 Nourishing Melt gel cleanser at night, and just use warm water on my face in the morning to get the dry skin off.
I then add NO 7 Protect and Perfect Intense Advance Day Cream with SPF 30. Followed by No 7 liquid foundation on my nose mostly.
Blush is either dry or cream MAC, cheap mascara or No. 7 and MAC lipstick although I do have other brands I use. Sometimes I use a French powder if I am going out which makes the skin look so soft.
The topper before bed or in the morning is kohl. I put kohl in my eyes (right across the eye) which cleans the dirt collected and leaves a nice look. Note-the kohl I have been wearing is not the same as the products you see in stores. It is more like a fine sand, and I have been wearing it since 1973, and got it when I lived in Pakistan from my closest friend Aliya. After 30 years while running low, I got some more while in Kuwait on a trip while visiting her. I have some blue kohl (which is really not the same consistency which I got in Morocco at a Berber pharmacy) but keep the container more than using the product. One must be very careful to buy kohl that will not harm the eye. I have enough now in my tiny container for probably the rest of my life. I have had a few friends ask me to get the product when I was in the Middle East, but have learned they rarely use it. It is something one must get used to as it feels like sand on your eyes for a few minutes. But the effect is marvelous. Photo is my old container that I cannot live without.
My mother had glorious skin, and used whatever hand cream was handy on her face at night. She then used lipstick and that was pretty much it. She sometimes put a bit of the lipstick on her cheeks, or merely pinched them.
I tend to always be in a hurry and not interested spending time in front of a mirror, so am very fast in the mornings and night. Night is just washing the face, and patting some cream on before I climb into bed. No big deal. More time is spent making sure the dog is in the right spot next to me and I have time to read. A very boring routine.
Love ya….
LA CONTESSA says
SO, THE KOHL is a MAKE UP or a cleanser? Here in the STATES I KNOW it as a MAKE UP.
I am sorry we could not get your photo of the KOHL container to appear here……….CHARMING AS CAN BE!
YOU have LIVED A VERY EXCITING LIFE!The fact you are in a home from the 1700’s intrigues me NO END!
Boring is GOOD as long as we are HEALTHY!
THANK YOU for your ROUTINE!

The great thing about Khol is that it cleans the dirt off your eyes, and leaves a lovely dark softness under your bottom lid. You see this on Indian women and children. So the great part is that it does two things. Will try and send you a photo of my eye after a cleansing. The dirt goes in the corner, and leaves your eyes sparkling.

That tick bite looks monstrous! I hope you are healed quickly and especially that you don’t get Lyme disease.
Or any other disease! A relative in one of the hard-hit states has COVID for the SECOND time. He’s a fireman, so he picks up all kinds of sick people, since firemen arrive before the ambulance does. He found out through a blood test early in the summer that he had coronavirus antibodies; no symptoms (the blood test was for a population study to estimate how many people had been infected during the early weeks). Then in October, he lost taste and smell and was tested again and was positive. This time he’s really sick–can’t breathe and has chest pains. For a month.
Another relative, in a neighboring red state, tested positive and her employer told her she was expected to keep going to work as long as she could get out of bed because they were short-staffed. SHE DELIVERS BABIES IN A HOSPITAL. Can you believe it? Insanity.
The numbers here have dropped dramatically, which shows what can happen when everybody wears a mask and bars, restaurants, gyms and churches are closed.

I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR THIS…………about your relatives.

Dear Elizabeth, it’s always a pleasure to come and read about what you’re up to. That tick looks awfully painful. They are horrible little things. Looks like you will be having a very quiet Christmas. We don’t have much going on either. All office parties have been cancelled, there are no Christmas markets going on and shopping feels like a chore more than anything else. But we’ll try to make the most of it, same as you. I am sure your ‘ little’ tree will look lovely when it’s done and Banksy will enjoy the twinkling lights. Our have gone bonkers and we need to get a new set so my Christmas tree is up with nothing on it. Take care and continue being you.

I spend way too much time watching shows and on the computer, but we are supposed to stay in so I am giving myself a pass.. Lately I am thinking a lot about how to change the house and garden up. Your pots are pretty. Can you so a combination of red flowers and succulents for the holidays? I am having a friend re-do my pots this month too. I’m glad you found the tick! That is scary. Take care and enjoy the downtime. You may feel more peppy when we get out of this warm pandemic! xoxo

Hi there CONTESSA
I can honestly say I have been really happy during these months of COVID. My friend and I say we are thriving = learning lots and enjoying ourselves. We have no work due to COVID closure.
My husband and I are staying well.
Routine – well, I usually get up at 9:30 – today is an exception – 8:30. I make my tea and read emails – news – etc for 1 hr. My husband has been up for hrs already. Then it’s breakfast time. Then time to get dressed and put on lipstick. Lipstick is a must! Some days I have errands etc to do so off I go in the afternoon. Today the cat has to be at the vet for nail trim and a shot. The other day I went to the bookstore and another day to an art exhibit.
I try to have – rain or shine – an afternoon and an evening walk (eve is nice now with people decorating for Christmas). This is usually in my neighbourhood or I might drive to a beach/park in the afternoon. We have new restrictions here re COVID so socializing is curtailed = lunches with friends are cancelled.
I rarely watch tv in the afternoon – the exception was Dr Phil 2 weeks ago – just had to see how a lady fell for the romance scam and was out $$$.
The yard/garden draws me some days. I still haven’t done any organizing. During November I found a free conference for a week on ZOOM so listened to speakers on various topics – usually for 1 hr a day for a week = so interesting. Also heard some really good author interviews etc thru some other sites. Never did ZOOM events prior to COVID.
My husband is the cook in the house but on occasion I will do a meal and bake.
I will read a book at some point during the day/eve. For some odd reason time flies! Soon it will be spring time – buds are on the trees already!
This week is pulling out xmas decorations and doing cards. I will decorate a tree by the sidewalk. I did make a wreath for our front door the other evening.
During the day/eve the cat usually wants some of my attention. Also my husband!
It’s a frosty morning here and the sun is out so after my return from the vet I will go for a long walk.
You could do a variety of dark chocolate treats for the Italian.
Reading your blog/reader’s comment(s) is always fun.

(Warning: SOAPBOX AHEAD)
RE:TICK-Don't ask me how I know, but here's my 2 cents: [You know I am not a medical professional] 1) if you haven't already, can you locate the actual tick? If so, save it (I know- EWWW!) pressed between two pieces of clear tape. You may need to show it to a professional at some time. 2) Keep the site cleaned and monitor any lasting effects right around the area. Especially monitor for any rash. 3) If a rash does not go away soon-ish, OR IN TWO-THREE WEEKS, if you start feeling a "flu" like sickness, get to a doctor ASAP (a video appointment at a BARE MINIMUM) tell them what happened and when- date of tick bite, date of flu symptoms. They may prescribe antibiotics and they may recommend you get a test for LYME (a blood panel). Be aware the test might be "inconclusive" if the date of the TEST is too close to the date of the tick BITE. 4) I know you certainly do NOT need any extra impositions on your health! But, PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE THIS. Though rare in CA,there are reported cases of Lyme there, and Lyme Disease is no joke. (END SOAP BOX SPEECH)
Enjoy your special time with G this season. Sending hugs and happy wishes for a healthy Christmas. <3

I love love love that portrait picture of you in Paris. It is incredibly chic and quirky and quite beautiful. YOU are beautiful!
Cutting down your own tree – amazing! Give the Italian a big hug and pat on the back for that.
Polishing silverware? Oh yes. Every now and then I will pull out a few pieces of my grandmothers silver and mostly silver plate and polish, polish, polished. I find it incredibly meditative and relaxing. Go figure.
And yes, enough with this Covid insanity! I count my blessings that the people I cherish our OK, but living life completely cut off from people for — let’s see, nine months now? — it’s hard. Thanksgiving Solo was hard – I made myself a sandwich and called it a day but hey I didn’t have any dishes to do! And Christmas I think it’s going to be even harder. Thank goodness for being able to at least catch a glimpse of my boys on a small handheld screen – but not often enough – they are always so so busy.
I am trying to write and post more — I didn’t for months – and I do always manage to keep myself busy learning something new in my apartment surrounded by books books books books, and there’s always the Internet besides.

Nasty tick. Hopefully, not Lyme … that you do NOT need. I love that the doctor remembered you and Banksy. How could she forget?! Is it really almost nine months?! I’m a little depressed that things have taken a turn for the worst. As everyone said they would. But, there is also light at the end of the tunnel and I’ve set my sight on June as the date we might begin to resume more normal routines. Jim was at the dentist today and they had a deep discussion (how does one do this with dentist fussing around in mouth?) about the changes made that they will continue post-pandemic. There are many for me too and I have treasured my time at home … I spend a lot of time there anyway. As usual you’ve written a fascinating and thoughtful post … I enjoyed hearing of your daily routine. I imagine everyone else is accomplishing more that I am … and you certainly seem to be one of those. My morning routine involves walking my furry friends … my personal trainers since 2001 … and then I make my morning cocoa. This is new … the making of cocoa at home and I’ve acquired lovely milk brother … as I used to pick up a Starbuck’s cocoa on way to reservoir with the doggies. Does Starbuck’s miss me? I don’t know. I am using their cocoa for my at home drink. I will not return to Starbuck’s post pandemic. Your tree is lovely … is it small? It looks quite tall. I hope you’ll share it with us when the decorating is done. xo

Yikes, what was that tick thinking, attacking you! For what it’s worth, Lyme disease isn’t as common in CA as it is in other parts of the country. And do you know why? It’s because the western fence lizard has a toxin that kills the Lyme carrying ticks…or something like that. Jane can tell you what it is.
As for Covid, there was a story in the Chronicle a few days ago that made me think it might be the silver lining in this mess we’re in. It seems that some bird songs have not only gotten softer but the song itself has become more complex. One theory is that because the birds don’t have to sing as loud in order to be heard over traffic noise, the range of notes they sing has gotten bigger. They recorded a bird in the Presidio singing a song that hadn’t been recorded since the 1950’s! How’s that for a silver lining?

Dear Contessa,
Nasty tick! My skin is so sensitive I probably would have felt the little bugger and dug it out before thinking. You did the right thing. Poor girl. And as far as your urn, I would do a topiary and then perhaps some pretty native flowers surrounding it. And a trailing vine would be pretty as well. I’m a Midwesten girl so your growing season is a little different but those are my thoughts. Height and color. And I have to add, your Paris photo is lovely–you are lovely, inside and out.
I like your daily regimen. We are so alike and the same age so I don’t think that’s coincidental. Myself? I’m a late sleeper as I’m a late owl. As a writer I like working in the evening. In the morning I have two cups of coffee and a cold drink, Iced tea, iced water, juice ( my daughter has a juicer and makes the most delicious vegetable concoctions??)…I just love something refreshing even with the coffee. I don’t eat breakfast, or rather I eat breakfast for lunch about 1:00 p.m. Cereal, toast, eggs with sausage or bacon, a bagel and cream cheese, and always, a bowl of fresh, mixed fruit. Not all at once!!! A late afternoon snack may be a handful of mixed nuts, a yogurt, or a few slices of cheese and crackers. Believe me, I’m not quite the healthy eater. I get waylaid in splurging at dinner, eating large portions and giving in to carbs. I’m not too much into sweets but don’t leave a bag of potato chips near me! Anyway, I’m trying to lose weight which has been a losing battle for many years. Two steps forward, ten steps back.
I never have the TV on during the day, nor my laptop. I do text and sometimes pop on to Instagram or Facebook. I like to watch CNN while I make dinner. I love to cook so it can be a 2 hour extravaganza, totally my happy time. We have dinner late, about 8 p.m., so I finally sit down to watch a little TV around 10 p.m. while I write, and then I pick up where a left off in my latest good read-book form.
I love playing with makeup and I’m super careful with skincare. I’m a little sad that I don’t have much reason to put on makeup everyday, and like you, I use that time to moisturize and do good things for my skin. I LOVE lipsticks, I’m pale and I need the color. But with masks? It’s impossible and a little wasteful. I wonder if lippie sales have gone down. So the bottom line is I think things have gotten flipped around during the pandemic, some in positive ways and others a little disappointing. I have faith that we will reach some state of norm.
Thanks for such a lively post–I enjoyed reading the other ladies routines. It’s a great feeling of sisterhood.

I love this look into your daily life! It makes me feel guilty though as I am a pajama all day girl and my TV is on for noise all day long! I think tomorrow I will get up and get dressed…and then no. I always wear lipstick and have not stayed in my nightgown and robe for an entire day.
Hope your tick bite is not too painful.
Your Paris photo shoot Is absolutely stunning…I remember it from years ago.

I LOVE the photo shoot of you and the ‘girls’. The first time I met you was seeing the whole shoot on your site, here. So Impressive. I said to myself, ‘Who is this amazing lady? I must get to know her!’
LOVE that your Italian cut down the tree with his own hands.
Your routine during Covid sounds quite comforting. I like this idea of tending to facial care twice a day. I wouldn’t have thought of that. I am suffering an itchy but small pimple under my chin I think from wearing a mask. I’ve been treating it with Burt’s Bees natural blemish stick. I’ve been reading more and getting back to my manuscript editing, so feeling much better than last month.
No tree up this year but I have decked out our apartment with lights and decorations!
I hope that tick didn’t leave a scar. Did you get it out in the garden? Stay well, LA CONTESSA. Keep taking care of YOU. xoxo

hello from warm and sunny Spain….no Xmas-feeling at all because of the weather. Oh yes, still remember these photos done in Paris.
You looked so stunning in this red? robe. Tick…personally never had but it is not to underrate and I hope you feel well again. Urnes…
sorry, no ideas except …… Stylish or fancy? …set a huge glass ball on the top of the urnes, each in a different color. Not cheap but
last (perhaps?) forever, at least it is usable summer and winter and don’t need water. Pen pal….are there really people they have one?
I mean not digital. As a teenager I wrote many letters back and forth to my pen pals. What a nice even old fashioned ritual. How to start
my day?…1 glass of warm water, after oil pulling, making breakfast ready (a healthy one course), have my bath rits, very important to
me to feel good the rest of the day. Check e-mails, read NP, if it is not a shopping day, I go to the kitchen and prepare everything which is possible, for our late (3-4 p.m.) lunch, make either 1 hr walk or doing my Yoga (rotatory), after lunch is rest time with reading or a nap,
then I do other housework if necessary, (like iron etc.). Rarely have dinner….so I watch a movie or some interesting docus, 10 p.m. I
start with my night routine which is like a holy grall for me . First I do 15 min. Pranayama then I do my cleansing (double) and enjoy everything which makes me relaxed to be ready for a good sleep. Perphaps not to much I packed in a day but I need a lot of quiet time
in these times. Now, I wish you a good night and a happy wake up. Stay safe, stat healthy, my Dear.

after wake up drink 1 glass of warm water. When finished with the water take 1 tablespoon Oil (Sesame, Olive or Coconutoil) and pull it trough your mouth between your teeth. Your cheeks look like a baloon (it is also a face gymnastic). Do this for 10 min. and spill it into the toilette. Clean your mouth and teeth as usual. Oil pulling is a detoxification and very healthy for your gut, stomage and oral mouth hygenic. Try it, it’s also funny and tell me
your experience please.

Stay up all night writing, then sleep in. Why does inspiration only strike in the middle of the night? Get up in time to read the daily email from penpal in England. The rule in writing each other is never to disregard the daily trivia. Sometimes read the daily covid report. Today, am totally freaked out by the covid report. Am glad I have stocked up a decent pantry so none of my friends have to go to the grocery store on my behalf. Getting my Christmas gifts ready to mail. Not sure who if anyone will take them to the post office for me. Chores and more chores (of things overlooked while writing).
Wonder what the hell your doctors are thinking re tick — at least send the tick to the lab. But glad 3 weeks have gone by and you’re feeling ok!
I love the Paris photos.
Heidi says
Hi Elizabeth,
You have a routine that works for you, which is really all that matters. You do have some fun things to look back on, like your photo shoot in Paris. What a dream, and you look like a star! So glamorous!
The days seem to go just as quickly now as before when I was always running around, wonder why that is? I guess I am just as busy, doing different things. For me, my day always starts with yoga, except Sundays when I take long walks at the beach. Then breakfast with the newspaper, then shower, dress, make up, hair, earrings, perfume. Always, every day! I haven’t spent a day in my jammies, that is me on a sick day and I don’t like it! Then I usually spend time in my studio, painting or drawing or creating something. I have my errands to run ( I limit my time out and about, and no unnecessary shopping around for fun) chores to do in between, and dinner to either shop for (my kitchen is so well stocked right now I should be able to get by for months, except for fresh produce) or plan and cook. I read every evening and then to bed to watch something that I hope will entertain me. The British Bake-Off is in rotation right now with other shows that are either new or recommended to me by my daughters. That in a nutshell is my most exciting life!
I had a tick bite in that very spot on my neck in back of my head. The dog was laying on the back of my chair and I was leaning against her. I imagine that’s how I got bit. It hurt a lot! I bet yours does, too. Hope it’s healing and you don’t have any other symptoms.
House is all decorated for the holidays now, I spent the last two days doing only that! I can start back in with my daily routine again tomorrow, and enjoy the pretty lights and all the holiday cheer!
Take good care of yourself, I’m so sorry about little Winston.
XO Heidi

Hi Elizabeth,
Sorry to be arriving so late to the party! But this way, I get to read all of the comments. I will never tire of seeing the photos from the Paris shoot; they are amazing and you are a glamorous subject. Sorry the tick found you so delicious! I think watching is the main thing to do. That was the advice I got for my last tick bite. Keep the area clean and keep an eye on it. Now, for the best part, thank you for your mysterious mention of your COVID pen pal extraordinaire! I might know who that is! Seriously, it has been SO fun and a great support during the current uncertainty. I always enjoy hearing from you and your stories. As to a routine, I have come to have a greater appreciation for the little things than I had in the Before Times. I have found I have more time to pay attention, if that make sense. And I have found meaning and gratitude in being fortunate enough to have a home and just to relax there. I love that you turn on the Christmas tree in the mornings; what a nice tradition.

I always use Safari. I heard that Chrome is bad for the privacy.
As for lockdowns, yet, I left California right on time when they closed indoor dining and the museums. I had just been to the SF Moma the Thursday before the lockdown started again. Here it’s getting worse and our restaurants closed on Oct. 15th. They won’t reopen until the middle of January at the earliest. Only takeout! Only 3 guests are allowed in a household, maybe less for Christmas. Luckily shops are open and the hair salon… Luckily I was also able to get a pedicure on Monday. We need a bit of freedom.
Please stay healthy. Wishing you a beautiful Christmas and we’ll definitely meet up in 2021!

Agree with another reader, arriving late to your party (i.e. post : ) has the added benefit of reading so many comments–although I don’t know them, it’s interesting how you feel you know people through their words. I loved reading about the new and expanded birdsong… if there is one silver lining, I do believe the natural world has benefited (with, of course, the big exception of the massive fires..)
Some quick comments : )
I had undiagnosed lyme disease years ago in CT… it was terrible… needed the strongest antibiotics for six months. Do be aware of possible symptoms (fatigue, eyesight issues were mine..)
At my advanced age, I am still working and resp. for administrative oversight of testing of club members and family… I have seen every covid test there is. Now going to rapid pcr testing with CVS corporate on property…members will have to test every 2 weeks, staff 1x week. So weekends are my only time for R&R. Beauty routine is fast (and SO basic).. soap and water and Mother Nature’s Mountain facial cream at night (thanks to you!)
I vote for combination of gardenias, topiaries (perhaps lit w/ white lights : ), and some globes — open, metal (vintage if possible : ) that evoke space, planets (next book : ) and maybe a small vintage birdhouse that would fit w/ ivy or trailing vine.
Have always ADORED the French photos…YOU are America’s Duchess of Devonshire… The Contessa of Orinda XOXO

The tick bite looks nasty , hope it is healing and no repercussions. I so enjoyed seeing the all the shots from the Paris photo shoot with carla. They are amazing and you look like royalty in your red opera coat. Paris is my all time favourite city and you fit right in.
I am sure your Christmas tree will be simply beautiful and I know you and the Italian will make the day special. We are fortunate here as most things are pretty much as normal with the Covid cautions in place.
No brilliant ideas for your pots , I have two empty pots that I have just removed the tulips from and they are now waiting for new plantings.

Ciao Bella,
I’m so sad to hear over on Taste of France that Winston is gone! What a shock, and I’m sure his four-legged family is bereft as well. What a miserable end to the year – I hope your beloved Italian and kids can rally around and put a bit of sparkle into the Christmas season. The fresh tree is a grand start. Our tinsel one is up but undecorated, still. Good plans went awry last week, which is also why I’m so late to the party here. Hullo BPPV – the new and unwelcome visitor to my world! Christmas is going to be very low-key this year, in fact probably hugging the floor, hahah!
Your Paris photos are utterly fabulous. I’ve always wanted to know if the chickens were real? If so, how did they get wrangled, and many more questions besides! I suspect they probably are, since one of the most amazing shoppes I saw on a trip to Paris was a pet-store by the Seine in amongst the chic stores that had every animal a Parisian may want for their apartment, from snakes and lizards to puppies and ferrets and even a glossy storybook rooster!!
I cannot contribute to the Routine chat – no tips, no tricks to share. Minimalism in the grooming and “self-care” department wins out, as it doesn’t in every other aspect of my life, hahah!
Baci xx

Hi Elizabeth! How about, dwarf Radicans Gardenias, for your pots? They are the most adaptable and fragrant dwarf shrubs you can find. You get sweet-scented blooms, but on a small shrub that gets just 2 feet tall! Use it as a border plant or in a container. You can even grow it in front of larger shrubs as a fragrant ground cover. I have one of these plants in my side garden, tucked among the perennials…small and evergreen. Take care and hopefully fast healing from that tick bite!

GARDENIAS are shade LOVING plants and these urns have FULL SUN.I DO LOVE THE IDEA OF THEM.

Hello Elizabeth, what a treat to come here and catch up with you and your life. I have to admit I’ve never had to deal with ticks and didnt have any idea that they do such harm. That looks like it hurt. So glad it’s over with. I have no good ideas for the pot, I planted an olive tree in a wooden planter that I loved and it took off in growth. It definitely wasn’t a slow grower. How are your boys? Both in serious relationships if I remember. I hope the girls are all doing well (you can text me if you need) and blending in nicely if you know what i mean.
I can’t believe we’ve made it to christmas season, I’ve been trying to decorate and I’m a believer in trying to experience each holiday, even as we grieve for Patrick. But this is such a surreal year. In so many ways really. First year we didn’t spend Thanksgiving with extended family and it turns out that they all got Covid over that week. My dad has been a serious worry for us with his vulnerable lungs and pacemaker but I think he’s gotten through the worse. This is not like the regular flu no matter how much our delusion president wants his followers to believe it is.
I’m hoping that in Spring we can get together. Praying that the vaccine brings a sense of normalcy back to our lives.
love
Leslie.
