WELCOME READERS……………with a bit of FUN DRAMA!
ALWAYS DRAMA with me!
HERE WE GO THROUGH MY GARDEN WHICH IS A BIT LATE THIS SPRING IN GIVING ME SOME BLOOMS!

I BELIEVE THIS TO BE NEW DAWN……PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG!
There was a day back in the PAST when I thought I would NEVER FORGET THE NAMES!
That was WISHFUL THINKING ON MY PART!
I HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS TO COME IN ONES 60’s or the MEDICATION one has to take in my case that wipes out memory!!

THIS ONE I CAN REMEMBER!
LIMONCELLO like THE DRINK OR SHOULD I SAY APPERTIVO!
That THE ITALIAN makes.

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE ROSE THAT I HAVE GROWN!
BOLERO……..full of FRAGRANCE.

A SLEEPING PIGGY IN MY GARDEN!
I am looking for some new garden chairs have yet to find any that sweep me off my feet!
We also have a SQUIRREL Committee that likes to build their NESTS with the stuffing of my outside seating NOW!
The choices for garden chairs do NOTHING for ME……..
Very plastic and ABSOLUTELY NO STYLE.
What have YOU found?

CLEMATIS….I believe it has DUCHESS in its NAME……..
.. CHARLOTTE ROSE

THE BRIDGE OF SIGHS going to the VEGGIE GARDEN.
The ITALIAN takes care of that!
He has self~seeded THE BASIL this year and my JOB at the moment;
is to make sure they have water and I rotate them for SUN!
WE MAKE PESTO FOR THE YEAR FROM THIS.

BOLERO…………I KEEP ADDING MORE!
Not this year as CALIFORNIA has a big water shortage!

A WATER IRIS………
These over take the fountain to keep the fish out of SIGHT.
From the BIG BIRD ( HERON ) that flies in every so often!

EARLY SPRING
STANDARD PILLOW FIGHT WHITE ROSES

THE SURVEYOR…….
DOWN in the creek area…….in her PINK GARDEN BOOTS!
PILLOW FIGHT ROSE in all’s its GLORY!
These were TRANSPLANTS last YEAR we were LUCKY they TOOK!
As we moved them in SPRING last year!
Can you BELIEVE a neighbor did not want them!

Behind me is the OLD CHIKEN COOP!
Recall I had to get rid of them when they found out I have MAC or LADY WINDERMERE………
SONOMA CHICKS TOOK THEM…………..VERY KIND OF HER!
WE MET ON INSTAGRAM.
I cannot tell YOU how fun INSTAGRAM has been for me……..
I have been on this PLATFORM for over TEN YEARS NOW.
The people I have met from ALL OVER THE WORLD have brought me so much JOY!
From VOQUE and BAZAAR editors to Portrait hunters of the 18C and INTERIOR DESIGNERS and REAL GARDENER’s, GENUINE GOOD PEOPLE who have similar interests.Plus the animal videos of creatures in the wild and at home with their FAMILIES.
FOOD for THE SOUL especially in these LAST THREE YEARS………..

PETUNIA’s from SAFEWAY……I walked by them TWICE and they had not SOLD so I gave them a HOME!
I JUST HAD TOO!

HOW I LOVE ANYTHING FOR THE GARDEN IN CEMENT!
I wanted to use all CEMENT tables, statues and benches inside the home, but THAT ITALIAN VETOED MY IDEA!
You see MY VISION was to adorn the benches and chairs with velvet cushions with tassels!
Those cement TABLES are MAGICAL!
Round or Rectangle!
THIS URN was given to me from my neighbors for my 40th birthday!

A CAFE LATTE in the GARDEN…………..
Have you seen Elizabeth Barlow’s Paintings?
She resides in CARMEL and use to work for the San Francisco OPERA.
FLOWERS……GALORE that LOOK REAL!
Click above on the LINK!
She gave me that blue and white BIG CUPPA!

NEW SPECTACLES….what do YOU THINK?
ROUND AND ORANGE hanging off MY PEARLS GALORE.
.

So this is the skirt that fell off me when I showed MYSELF in LEGGINGS………….
HORRORS ON INSTAGRAM!

Even with the LABEL UP!
It was a TRICK QUESTION !
I asked my followers if I would go outside the house in these?
Most said YES!
MY ANSWER is NO!
NO matter the BODY SHAPE!
Unless you have a long shirt covering the GLUTEUS MAXIMUS!
THE KNEES CAN GIVE YOUR AGE AWAY!!
Not that anyone cares anymore.
I wear these under CAFTANS and MAXI dresses for warmth ONLY.
YOU can do as you choose but there are TOO MANY of us WHO HAVE LOST THE IDEA OF COVERING UP!
Mostly the Youth!
It’s like THE EMPORERS NEW CLOTHES TO ME!
WE either see THE BUTT CRACK or the underwear line or the dimples of the GLUTEUS MAXIMUS .
I have wanted to tell SO many LADIES YOUNG AND OLD when I wait in the grocery store line
“DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE FROM THE BACK?
MOST OF THESE WOMEN HAVE SHORT TOPS ON OR BASICALLY AN EXERCISE BRA…………..
Trotting around TOWN you should be covered up a wrap of some kind or a long tunic takes but a minute to add.
IF you are in exercise class thats OKAY it’s when you leave or run errands after that I am HARPING ABOUT!
WE HAVE BECOME A VERY CASUAL SOCIETY AS YOU KNOW.
I think I’m living in the DARK AGES!
IT’s TRUE……..
NO FAKE NEWS from ME!
I SEE IT DAILY!

The BANKSIA ROSE did not do well this year…….
BETTY enjoying THE MEADOW
ROSES WITH LEMON BALM

YOU CAN SEE HERE where the SQUIRRELS go to TOWN!
I have started stitching THE CUSHIONS.
That’s a sight me on my knees sewing away!
Plus me in the FLOWERED CROWN!
NOR, do I go outside the house with this CROWN on.
ONLY on a Hat would I do that!

A MRS. WHALEY’s REFLECTION SPOT!
HAVE YOU READ HER BOOK YOU GARDEN BUFFS?
I LOVE IT!
SHE LIVED IN CHARLESTON.

I LOVE THIS CHARTREUSE PLANT BUT CANNOT GET IT TO GROW IN ABUNDANCE but my NEIGHBOR CAN!
THIS ONE IS MINE!

EARLY SPRING!

SALLY HOLMES

WHICH ONE of YOU used to make Necklaces or Earrings from these Daisies as a child?

OUR FIRST HOMEGROWN APPLE!

A SPOT I ADORE BUT UNCOMFORTABLE TO SIT!

THATS it for NOW from me in MY GARDEN.
THE JASMINE HAS YET TO BLOOM SO A FEW SHOTS OF THAT WILL COME LATER….
SEIZE THE DAY with JOY!
THAT’s AN ORDER!
I APPRECIATE ALL of YOU WHO STOP BY TO SAY HELLO!

Diana Amato says
Well, good morning to you and your glorious garden! I would love to see more of the Italian’s vegetable garden. You know how much I love a vegetable garden! I know we all have various and curious wardrobe choices and we are living a much more casual lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean we have to look unkempt. Stylishly thrown together is beautiful to see, from all angles! I think that is something to ponder! Do you know what you look like in a 360degree rotation?
Hope you have a wonderful day! Your garden is Paradise! XO
Un forte abbraccio,
Diana, La Zingara
LA CONTESSA says
Well, you will not believe this but the VEGGIE garden is not planed yet as THE ITALIAN had SHOULDER SURGERY two months ago and has now been given the permission to lift 3 to 5 pounds! Also we are ALWAYS behind Southern California for Tomatoes etc……..The basil is in little seed boxes up top!
360 ROTATION! That is a GOOD POINT!
I think we all should say that BEFORE WE WALK OUT THAT DOOR!

Hi Elizabeth,
I am a huge fan of wicker and found this beautiful, comfortable and sun resistance chair on Mayfair. I would have a couple of these in my garden. You could either paint the cushions in waterproof paint in a floral design or have slipcovers made with an English floral design weatherproof fabric. https://www.wayfair.com/outdoor/pdp/highland-dunes-whitcher-outdoor-garden-patio-chair-with-cushions-w002540834.html
LA CONTESSA says
Yes I LOVE THOSE TOO but I am looking for smaller chairs for around a TABLE!Which is an OLD DOOR I CARTED BACK FROM ITALY!THANK YOU FOR THE LINK AND YOUR IDEAS!

Your garden is sooooo beautiful!! And ethereal!! My Umbrian garden is mostly draught resistant, due to lack of rain. Newly planted Hydrangea are demanding lots of water. So is the vegetable garden.
You look so beautiful!!

I don’t know which is more beautiful, you or the garden. What a treat. Love all the photos of it all. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. I now need some boots for my garden. Although with the water restrictions who knows whaat will happen to my garden. The last time we had this drought our neighbors gigantic pine tree feel down and crushed our cars, tree and destroyed our garden. So maybe I won’t need boots. But I love yours. Here’s to rain, gardens and your beautiful style. So glad we found each other.
LA CONTESSA says
NO BOOTS as they can be a tripping HAZARD for US!Mine have a slight heel which I DONOT LIKE..FLAT FLAT FLAT is the way to GO and YOU should NOT be on THAT HILL!Then again you got on the TOP OF THE ROOF TO DANCE!!!

I suppose you know how blessed you are. Yes, I’m sure it’s a lot of hard work for you and the Italian and the squirrels, but it is heaven. The photos are glorious , so vivid I can almost smell those flowers and greens.
Your lament about garden furniture reminded me that we once had a majestic terra cotta table with four stools. Of course it was Italian! We never got around to making cushions for the stools so it was not too comfortable but so pretty. Now I’m wondering what the hell happened to it…we moved several times so we must have sold it. It makes me very sad to realize it’s gone, like so many things and loved ones are gone.
Enjoy every beautiful moment.
LA CONTESSA says
CANDACE, I have NEVER FORGOTTEN THE MARBLE TABLE I LET GO………still haunts me to this DAY!
I TRY TOO……….cant READ the NEWS or that is IMPOSSIBLE TO DO!

Thrilled to see you have read Mrs. Whaley’s Garden. I love Charleston too. Humid, but beautiful. Would love to be with you someday, sharing a cup of coffee and enjoying your sweet animals and warm and welcoming home.
LA CONTESSA says
I have forgotten where you live?

I was on a garden tour there in CHARLESTON and one of the GARDENS was HERS!
WHAT A DELIGHT THAT WAS………..AND A GREAT SURPRISE FOR ME!
I WAS READY TO MOVE TO CHARLESTON!!!

Contessa your garden did not disappoint this year. It is dreamy. Charlotte Rose has such a nice color. I can only imagine the smells coming from your garden. Lavender and roses and lemon balm. No wonder Theodore, Banksy and Betty are so calm and relaxed. Love all your pictures of you in your magical world.
Yes, I loved Mrs. Whaley’s garden and have toured it. I’m originally from SC. Her daughter Marty is a very accomplished gardener herself and and artist. She is on Instagram.
Homemade Pesto. I do remember your post of you and the Italian making pesto; a labor of love. Love pesto!
Lastly…I do miss the chickens, and Winston following you to the hen house. I know what a wonderful home Sonoma Chicks has given them.
You look well! Forgetting a few names. No worries. Thank you so much, once again, for sharing. It was a very special visit to your garden.
Stay well!
LA CONTESSA says

I found MARTY on INSTAGRAM!!Thank you for sharing that INFO!
I laugh at your statement you look well………I have had a terrible cough the last TWO WEEKS with no doctor or medication!
But those photos were taken before all that started!
I understand what you are speaking about here and maybe an email would be BEST!Making progress but NOT there YET…….what are we on year SEVEN I do believe!!
I HOPE IT’s MY LUCKY NUMBER!
I MISS WINSTON TOO VERY MUCH………….

Oh, my!! What a beautiful garden, LA CONTESSA. You and the Italian have created an oasis. I adore all of your outfits and love the pink Hunter boots. I chuckled reading about your complaints about half dressed (young-ish) women. It’s the style now. Half tops with tight leggings that show every bump and dimple. It’s shameful unless of course, you’re a yoga teacher or something. Even then, I agree that one should throw on a long blouse or sweater for a little modesty. Not to mention it’s cold in some of those stores while running errands.
Does Banksy snack on any of your lovely flowers? He looks quite happy there in the photo. He is SMILING.
LA CONTESSA says
YES!But NOT the roses I taught him early on!HE LOVES THE LEMON BALM!!!HE is like a mowing machine!

Contessa, thank you for this glorious treat! It was so fun to see you all decked out, simply wandering about, and enjoying your surroundings. That is how it should be. You look so rested and healthy! That was the best part. If I could see the mystery rose from several steps back, I could tell you if it is indeed New Dawn – I have several. They are fabulous. I really needed this today. Enjoy every minute of it. I owe you a lengthy e-mail! Much love to you, the Italian, and the piggy, kitty, and doggy. More later.

BEAUTIFUL photos! Thank you for sharing your gardens with us – it’s like a bit of PARADISE out your door! Many years ago on Oprah I heard Deepak Chopra say that seeing fresh flowers (in person) releases endorphins, so I had fresh flowers on my kitchen able for 20 years… I needed them while raising my kids those first 20 years – haha.
LA CONTESSA says
I BELIEVE IT AND BEING IN A GARDEN DOES THE SAME I RECENTLY READ!
HAS HE BEEN AROUND THAT LONG?CHOPRA?
THOSE first 20 years go by in a FLASH but when you are in them can’t go FAST ENOUGH!I remember being SO TIRED!However I have ALWAYS been a tired person so no NEWS THERE………
What is wonderful is seeing your children teaching their children the manners you taught them.
It’s all gone in a FLASH…………NOW WHAT?

I love seeing pictures of your garden….such wonderful flowers. I planted 6 rose bushes this winter and they are flowering now. Also lavender….my lemon balm is growing everywhere now as is my sage, they both love my soil!

Everything looks beautiful …. the roses, the animals, the statues and, of course, YOU !!!! We have Victorian style rattan armchairs and an old French table. I’m sure you will find your perfect garden furniture soon. XXXX
LA CONTESSA says
I DO LOVE THE RATTAN CHAIRS but to buy without trying is not the way I like to do things……….
here they cost a FORTUNE NOW from $300.00 up to $600.00 a piece.
The stores that carried them have closed and the PATIO STORES only have plastic ugly probably hold up very well but I just cannot do it………YET!
Nancy Edwards says
Adore your garden esp the roses! Paris bistro side & arm chairs are stylish & comfy & can be found at Frontgate & Wayfair. And you won’t need cushions?

THAT IS WHAT I WANT TO REPLACE! I even have cushions for them and they are worn.Ordered NEW YELLOW CUSHIONS at about 20.00 a piece and they were GOD AWFUL……………could feel the chair.THEY WENT BACK…….and I Ordered them on line without TRYING!

I just read an article about Dorothy Draper and have decided you are the new Dorothy Draper –of gardens and interiors–the bursts of color, the beauty and elegance.. it is a gift to open your posts for many reasons. She coined a word for her use of brilliant, bold color combined with large floral and botanical prints –Braziilliance. This fits you! You bring so much JOY to your posts in your writing and so much BEAUTY in the photos you share… the garden is magnificent, I cannot imagine the scent and having such a profusion of color and exquisite flowers to gaze upon. XOXO and hope the cough is better soon!

Is there anything more enchanting than the Contessa’s garden?! That’s a rhetorical question. NO! Obviously. I’m so blessed to have spent time in your enchanted garden … the wonders never cease. I hope your beautiful flowers and plants enjoyed the lovely rain we had over the weekend … much welcome, unexpected and needed. Thank you for this lovely tour and respite from a day of catch up and chores. Ok, I’m a few days late in reading this post … there was a family wedding, etc. keeping me from the inter-webs. Happy post-Jubilee Monday, Contessa! xo

What a treat to come to your site and see a new post of your beautiful garden & you! I love all the gorgeous flowers.
Here, I am taking out plants, including the lovely Quisqualis indica vine that volunteered from a parent and is in front of our back windows. Their fragrance is delicate and they are so pretty; they climb over the windows and give shade as well, but the state of the country (and world) has me feeling the necessity to grow more of our food so we need the space. I just read “Create Your Own Florida Food Forest” and it has inspired me. We can grow year-round here.
Still sad to remove attractive plants, so I’ll take lots of pictures (and I’m keeping the original Quisqualis vine that twined up a large post).
Thank you & I hope your cough improves!
